Hi,

I recently had a problem with my W203 when I filled up at petrol station.
The next morning the car did not start. To cut a long story short, the fuel I filled up with was mainly water. The local garage, emptied the fuel from my car´s deposit and cleaned it to remove and dry the water. He also replace the fuel filter.

Since I´ve had my car back it seems to cough at low revs when the car is warm and the engine management light appears but later removes it self.

I have gone back to the local garage twice and each time they have stated that the error codes sugests that "there is an air bubble or tiny amount of water causing this to make the car cough and trigger the engine management light on" and that this will eventually stop happening after I fill up the car a few more times and drive more milage with the car.

I have since made 300 miles and still get the same problem, on my last trip back to the garage they have stated that if this happens again they will replace my fuel filter as some water my have seaped through! They have also swapped coil 1 for coil 2 to see if the coils might need replacing.

Has anyone here experienced anything liked this before or are famliar with the error codes and how to rectify these errors, as I have lost a bit of faith with the garage and don´t really have the money to go to a Mercedes Benz dealer.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Kind Regards,

Was it a missfire that was detected?

Hi,
I believe so, I have as copy of the error report however it is in Portiguese as I am currently based in Portugual. My translating skills are not the best:
error P0313 stated " Failed ignition captured with low fuel NVE & MEM
error P301 stated Failed ignition in cylinder 1

I believe that failed igintion could mean missfire!

Any thoughts?

I know you wanted to cut the story short but please tell us how this happened..

Ok...
I am currently based in Estoril, Portugal.

I went to a supermarket petroll station and filled my car up completly 58 litres of unleaded 95.
I drove home half a mile away and parked the car up for the evening, the next morning the car started up and I did a 3 point turn and suddlendly the car started to cough and vibrate at which pointy the engine management light came on. I turn the ignition off and tried restarting the car but it would not start.
The car was towed to a local garage, who drained the fuel pumnp and told me it was filed with water!!

I came to discover that at the time of me filling up my car the petrol station was filling up their pumps. They failed to close the petrol station whilst they were filling up there pumps. The pump I wasbeen using must of been empty and I was sucking up water from the bottom of the pump into my car!! 80 euros for a car filled of water and they say fuel is expensive!!
The supermarket that owns the petrol station owned up and paid for the supposed repair of my car, 3 hours labour to clean fuel tank and replace fuel filter.
But everyday since at every journey I make with the car, once it is warmed up it will suddleny cough and the rpm´s drop low to about 500-600 which leads to the engine management light turning on. Then after 3 other journeys that I make with car the light switches off until the next journey, very frausting...:wallbash:
Thats how it happened.

the fuel could well have caused damage to valves. You will need to have a compression test carried out.
