W203 c180k coupe sport edition
Hi everyone I'm new to the forum I've just got myself a c class coupe c180 sport edition :)

I'm after a little more power really I know these cars are not the quickest of things but I didn't buy it for that I just want that little extra umphh if I can get it. First question is do you get much gains from a remap ( I know you will get gains but are they worth the cost) and who do you all recommend as I don't want fred in the shed to kill my car. I've also been looking at air filters but have read up that the K&N filter tends to oil the air mass up so dose anyone recommend a filter?
If anyone know of anything else that can be done please let me know

Many thanks Nick

I personally wouldnt fit a K&N to any car after the problems it gave my Porsches MAF. I always use OE filters.

One more against the K&N here.. they only add a couple of bhp at best, but the induction noise if you go open cone makes you feel like you're going faster.

I've no experience remapping these engines, but I have seen decent gains on other units so I can't see one hurting. Should improve torque, power delivery, driveability and possibly economy when driven sensibly!

Try a look through here:

Should be a fair bit of reading to help you along :thumb:

You could always buy a car with a more powerful engine. When I was in twenties, I used to spend fortunes upping the power of small engines. I came to the conclusion that for the same price as that 1.6 I can buy the 2.0 without spending over £1000 on exhausts, filters, cams etc to get the 1.6 to the equivalent power of a 2.0.
Then you have the hassle of insurance. Insuring the 2.0 was cheaper than the modified 1.6.
Obviously I don't know your age but the car I have at the moment cost me £304 to insure, so maybe getting a more powerful car won't be too costly to insure.

There is not much that can be economically done to the M271.

Remapping don't really work, and filters and exhausts won't do much either.

Larger pulley / higher supercharger pressure etc will work, but it is difficult to justify this kind of investment on a W203 C180K.

The 200K and 230K are more powerful variants of the same 1.8L M271 engine, using higher supercharger pressure and lower compression ratio.

Reference buying a car with more power I have a 430bhp mk1 Audi S3 the Mercs just a daily I just wondered if there where any quick simple power gains to be had that's all :) anyone ever put the 230 super charger on a 180?
