c220 cdi estate
Hi all picked my c220cdi estate up today it still has an issue with a clunkfrom the suspension . its a double clunk clunk noise that only occurs when turning left , but not every time and it is not affected by bumps in the road , any ideas we checked it but couldnt find anysignificant play in upper or lower arms , the fact its when steering made me think track rod end or rack mounts ?
your more expearienced thoughts would be appreciated
cheers
steve

Thouroughly check all of the coils on the suspension spring (mainly upper and lower) for a break ....................

Turns out I have a broken spring right front .
I am looking to source a new spring are Avantegarde springs different ie lower?
What are they like to do , how long should I need to pay for to do it?
can I just do the one for now ?
thanks
steve

Replace springs in pairs, not singularly. :thumb:

Where about's are you?
Take it to an indie as you need a monster spring compressor and the nut that holds the spring top mount in place is a special tool, cant be undone with a spanner.

In a perfect world you should replace both but if your budget won't allow it replacing one is fine. You will need the correct one for your trim, engine and spec of car, so make sure they have your chassis number when ordering.

Thanks guys my son knows a good indy local to me apparently (maidstone Kent) just wanted a figure in my head before I take the car in so I can tell if its a good deal or not?

I had two front springs and a bottom arm done at my local garage for £220 on my old w203.

If you have have look at the spring it will have bands of paint on it, for those in the know will be able to order the correct one.

wow that sounds a good price was that labour only?
?

No that was with everything, but not using genuine parts. It was done at my local garage, I checked with the head mechanic that he knew about the special spring compressor thing and he just told me not to worry and he could do it no probs and it's a pretty easy job to do. Whether he had one or borrowed one, I don't know :dk:
Springs breaking is a common fault on all makes of cars, the garage that did mine said they do about 3 or 4 most weeks. Torque arms and springs can be done by any competent mechanic and a merc indy isn't a must, if you have good local garage , taking it there should be fine just make sure they know about the spring compressor.
