Yes. First time prepare to spend few hours, second will be much quicker. Watch carefully how the lock mechanism is inside the plastic 'rain cover' before taking the lock out, that took most time to figure out how to put it back... :o
 
A few months ago, the front passenger side of my Mum's 211 had a bouncing lock so I replaced the lock with a new one.
Now the drivers side one is doing the same. So these replacement springs are OK are they?
Seems a lot of money for such a tiny spring though.
 
There are only few sellers in ebay, so price can be held high. For a spring. If alternative is the whole lock mechanism, are the spring costs still fraction of it. Spare springs are rather new issue, so there are no long term experiences how long they are going to last. I cannot see how they could be worse than MB originals :mad:.

Anyone got any tips on how to undo the T20 screw that fixes the exterior for handle in place? I have a T20 screwdriver that reaches the screw (after filing the handle down). I do not even know which way to turn the screw as Haynes manual says it depends on which side of the car (but does not which direction for which side - what a help!). Cannot seem to move it either way even after squirting with WD40.
 
Turn anti clockwise to loosen. Doesn't matter which door you're doing as it's just a standard bolt I.e. righty tighty lefty Lucy. (Whoever she is!)
 
The screw is stuck solid - will not turn. Head is chewing up so torx driver not gripping. I looked at the MB torque spec - really low - 1.5nm. I think this has been tightened well beyond specified torque. Can I drill it out? (would require a very long drill bit. Any other ideas? Thanks.
 
You're right, it shouldn't be that tight.

You're certain you've got the torx bit right in there? And you've got enough leverage to turn it?

Might be better if you can get a long torx bit and turn it with a ratchet handle. That way you can apply a bit of 'inwards' force whilst you turn, so as to start it moving.
 
I gave in and took the car to a local independant garage (P.G. Wilkins) who I have found to be good in terms of both work and costs. He succeeded in repairing the lock. I think he had to break/cut the part of the door handle off and get a replacement. Car now back in use.
