As with quite a few people on here and other forums I was suffering from the knocks and thumps from the front end. In fact I had two completely different sounds coming from each side.

After loads of forum browsing and asking questions I have finally got rid of the problem.

This is what I replaced and where I purchased the parts:-

Control Arms
Parts 90 and 140
Both items purchased from Eurocarparts, part 90 from Mercedes comes with no bush where as the one purchased does means no press required!

Eurocarparts No's:-
Left Hand Top Arm:- 610220645
Right Hand Top Arm:- 610220655

Left Hand Bottom Arm:- 610220665
Right Hand Bottom Arm:- 610220675

These four parts are made by LEMFORDER who manufactured the MB part, the packing comes with the A203 part numbers on it. There are others available at cheaper prices.

Anti-Roll Bar
Parts 20, 40, 50 and 60
Items purchased from Mercedes:-

Bushes :- A2033232185 x2
Bolts:- A0029903922 x4
Rods:- A2033202889 x2
Rod Nuts:- N913023010002 x4

To sum up the bushes within the top control arms were quite badly torn, the ball joints on the Anti Roll Bar rods had quite a bit of play, in fact one collapsed completely! The bushes on the bar also has some play however the big thing for me was the bracket that secures the bushes were badly corroded (aluminium) so I think I will change these.

As I said this has completely cleared the problem however I also plan to change the top strut mounting, however I didn’t purchase the special socket as I thought I could get away without it, big mistake so the struts need to come back out.

Hi wully i have got to change the alloy front arms on my wifes 203, bushs worn and starting to split, can you tell me how much they were and did you have any trouble undoing the balljoint end at the wheel end of the arm?.

This bushs is splitting, also looks to me as if mac strut has to come off to get arm ball joint nut off.

Lynall, only if you tell me if and how you did your front wheel bearings?

To answer your qustion the lower steel arms can be done with the strut in place however the upper does require the strut out to allow the balljoint enough space be removed.

As for the removal i was suprised as to how easy the nuts on the old ball joints came loose, i soaked them in WD40 everyday for a couple of days.

As for cost :- £66.95 ex VAT per side and these come with the rubber bush. There are cheaper ones available too.
