W203 Is it poss' to set mirrors to auto fold?

Hi Everyone,

Is there anyway to set the mirrors to auto fold when locking/unlocking the car as featured on some Mercedes models, the car is an 05 MY C220CDi Avantgarde.

Hi Matt,

I am pretty sure that it is possible to enable this function by the STAR diagnostic system.

When I had my car in I asked MB if they would do it, however they turned to me and said it was not able to be done on that model of C Class. The usual stealership answer instead of saying" Sorry Sir, I know we have the MB logo above our garage doors, but we do not have a clue about diagnostics on MB cars!"

But like I said I have read on here about guys that have had it done.

Cheers Terry, after a bit of searching I still haven't found a definative answer, I think it boils down to the type of fuse box the car has and when it was built.

I believe the door controllers in the front doors need to support the auto folding feature. My S Class has folding mirrors but you have to press and hold the button in order for them to go in and out.

I think if your mirrors fold on a 'one touch' operation you may have the correct door controllers.

Some here will be able to advise better.

Not all 203 mirrors fold anyway, they would have to be electric folding in the first place

Yes they are one touch folding mirrors, standard spec for an Avantgarde, so fingers crossed the mod might work then?

The HK is pretty disappointing Terry, not much better over the stock system, however it sometimes provides amazing clarity on some of my CD collection, but most of the time it just rattles the parcel shelf and speaker covers, something I shall try to fix this weekend after reading some of the posts on the forum!

It depends on the year and IIRC, it is done on STAR through the front SAM.

If it's the same as my 2005 CLK, you can do it through the convenience menu.

This function depends on having the correct door controllers. You need a good inde or a trip down south to see Alfie or Steve to get it looked at. I'm afraid there isnt a guarantee it can be done just on star but it is very cool if you can get it working. BTW if you do this mod do the rest of the cluster mods at the same time

Turn the ignition key to position 1, press the milage reset 3 times, if you hear a beep, then you are in to the menu system. from here you can set the mirrors to fold. If that does not work, it's plan B, STAR machine only.

Thanks for that, just tried it but only battery voltage, VIN, and an ESP test came up, along with Oil Level, very handy to know anyway! so im guessing it's def' going to be a trip to my indie.

The dealers told me this was not possible when I bought my 2005 C220 cdi Avantgarde. When I collected it, I took along some of the threads which I had printed out from here showing it is possible (if you have a late 2004 or newer model with the new SAMs) through STAR. They still denied it but after a pressed them further, they eventually found the menu in STAR and enabled auto folding mirrors and tyre pressure loss warning for me.

All the techs at the dealer were amazed when they saw it working, which was a little disconcerting...

I've spoken to 2 technicians at my local dealer and it's almost as if they're scared of StarDiagnose - they just do what it tells them to.

It worked out well for me and is definitely possible. I can understand why MB wouldn't want them to alter the car. What concerns me most is that the techs don't appear to have as much knowledge or enthusiasm for their work as I do for my work.

Perhaps if they hung out on this forum for a little while they would learn an awful lot!
