Hi all,
I will be doing an oil change on my car soon and the car doesn't have an oil level dipstick so was wondering how much oil the engine takes and also what the best grade oil to use.

I have a 2005 c220 cdi sport edition.

I know I can check how much oil electronically but just wanted to know how much oil to top up in the first place as I don't want to over or under fill it.

All help appreciated.

6.5 litres inc filter.

Add slightly less than the full amount 6.0 - 6.25 litres-ish and check the level. Mercs don't like being over filled as it brings up the Oil over fill warning and could damage the engine.

Any multi-grade oil that meets the MB specs 229.1 or 229.3

Don't forget to use low-ash oil if you have a DPF.

I don't have a DPF on mine and use Mobil 1 New Life.

How do I know if I have a dpf and what is a dpf what does it do. Is it necessary to have?

Also 6 litres seems a lot of oil. I have never owned a merc before this is my first. All the previous cars I have owned took a max of about 4 litres lol

DPF = Diesel Particulate Filter which is part of the exhaust system and filters out harmful toxins. There should be a sticker under the bonnet advising use of low ash oil, if you have one fitted, but most motor factors will be able to check if you give them your reg number. Main dealers will certainly be able to tell you, but don't go paying their prices for oil.

Take a look on Euro Car Parts | The UK's Number 1 Provider of Car Parts Online and In Store they have a discount promo on oil at the moment. Online orders only. (Any other time try using MBClub30 or MBClub25 for discount).

If you want to check the capacity have a look here Which Oil for my Car? - Mobil? UK & Ireland
I've taken the 6.5 litre capacity from the Haynes Workshop Manual for W203s
