Hi all,

I've had a C250 CDi AMG Sport for nearly four weeks now, its a 13 plate with 6K on the clock and purchased from my local MB dealer.

In the time I have had the car, the engine has noticeably got louder with respect to sounding rattly/tapity when applying the accelerator at low speed.

Is this normal for a C250 as my expectations were higher than this?

It is booked into the local MB dealership for a technician assessment this week.

Thanks

There was a post not long ago about a similar problem. Think it ended with the car getting a new engine. However circumstances were slightly different in that car was with its first owner under a company lease. Since you may be new to this particular model [ don't know what your previous car was??] it may be difficult for you to assess if the engine noise is typical . They are a bit rattly when you "give em the beans" Try to get a drive in a similar engined demonstrator for comparison.

Thanks for the advice.
Previous car was a Passat 140Tdi, which was much quieter than the merc.

I bought the car from local MB dealership and the car was on of their demonstrators.
A little dissapointed that with it not even 6 months old and now 6k on the clock that it sounds so noisy.

I did read a thread about a guy who had to have his engine pulled, something about the plate between the engine and gearbox...Ummm, no need to worry just yet!!

I will arrange a test drive in another C250 to gauge the drive, however, on test drive and after purchasing mine was much quieter than it is now.

Cheers

Oh great!!!

Fingers crossed it's not the same issue, but it does sound just like what i'm experiencing.

Thanks for the information, I will now go armed to MB on friday with the experience of others.

Cheers

I have exactly the same issue. Mentioned it on my last service, they said they did some 'engine updates' whatever that means but it didn't solve it. I will have to mention it again next time I'm in.

The car went into the local MB dealership today, the result was that they did not think anything was wrong with it!

We did a comparison with another C250 that they had with 4k on the clock, and mine did sound ever so slightly worse.

After plugging into the computer, no faults were found and I was advised to just monitor it and bring it back in if it gets any louder.

For peace of mind, I have the reassurance that they think its fine.

Still expected a MB to be quieter than my previous VW Passat.

My previous car was a seat exeo with the 2.0tdi 143bhp vag engine. It was much quieter and smoother than the engine in my current c220cdi. But the merc engine is much gutsier and more fun to use.

Well I though I could just live we the fact that the engine was not very quiet, but no!
The car has been back to the dealer again and, after some diagnostics, has had an injector replaced.

Seems quieter for now.
