hi i was wondering if any one has a nuber for people who fit the nav systems for my c220 w204?. i put it in but im getting no power to the screen im in the gatwick area and i would like to pay some one to do it right or if any one can tell me how to do it that would really help :thumb:

thanks kiders

You need to speak to Richard at Command, no doubt he'll be along shortly with all the answers!

You should be able to get it up and running yourself. Getting it fully operational, including the cluster menu would ask for help from experts.

An example thread here:
Retrofit a comand in my W204 C class - Benzworld.org - Mercedes Benz Discussion Forum
Read carefully, some mistakes in the wiring diagrams (but explained later) and some other confusion (from myself too) but all should have been clarified.

Can you explain which steps did you do so far? Specifically what did you do with the wiring harness?

all i have done is pluged it in i have not done any thing with the wiring harness?

i have looked at the link fom diesel benz but i cant really understand it? can some one please make it a bit more simple for me. i see they are going on about moving the pins on the wiring block on page 15 16

Can you clarify, you mentioned you just plugged it in, I guess you also plugged the 7" display in? The wiring harness really needs to be adapted or you could buy an adapter e.g. from kabeldaviko.

yes sorry i was trying to fit the 7 inch screen and it would not power up. that is the loom that i was looking to change if needed

The Americans have access to WIS (mercedes instructions) for $20 per 24 hours. Any time there is a fault its "do now" and "research later". I found the instructions perfectly clear and it tells you which wires to cut from the main harness as those are DUPLICATE wires under retrofit conditions.

Similarly one needs to be careful with Left driving and Right right versions of the same job.

This retrofit has a mass of components compared to other past setups. The ML retrofit was COMAND + ANTENNA ! The W204 retrofit has tubes, fans, switches, wiring, vents and all kinds of amusement.

Have to wonder if the Earth wire is bolted on and the front SAM connected.

My worst fears realised. 8 pages of hacking and around page 9 some information from MErcedes. I really can not fathom why someone needs to cut costs to the point where the officlal harness is not used and the factory fan is fudged with something else. That takes cheap to a whole new level.

In those 19 pages I see many mentions of people trying to re-invent something that already has been worked out and for the sake of a couple of bucks leaving things out completely. That is rather crude.

I'm a bit puzzled if you considered me cheap when I'm actually very often blamed to be narrow-minded with OEM options only.

Anyway, excluding the RHD blower parts, I believe the referred thread had pretty much the necessary info. I was not able to find (quickly) any forum thread that would not have anything irrelevant or non-OEM, the intention was to refer to something that should be useful, not claiming the thread would not have errors or cheap solutions. At the end it is the car owner deciding which way to go.

Also the "re-inventing the wheel" issue often comes from the fact that the existing knowledge isn't exactly freely available, for obvious and quite acceptable reasons. This thread can easily cope with more links to already existing info.

That is my whole point. For the USA the Tekinfo site gives them all they need to know in about 30 minutes (downloading and searching). I dont see why people need to guess other than being cheap-a___ and trying to get out of paying for information.

At about page 9 out of 19 it actually started to get relevant. People started to reference the OEM material and all the confusion ended.

Precisely which part of the W204 is not documented ? I dare say ... when it comes to wires ... it is all online, at dealers and with some private workshops. So these must really be ludite hermits in benzworld. I know that MBENZNL did the COMAND upgrades over a year ago.

I certainly agree about the Startek info. As you say, one owner who did the retrofit actually did use Startek extensively. But some may be afraid to try it and it does take a bit to learn how to find some useful info. Retrofits being so few are easy though.

PS. I'm not sure what was the comment about W204 documentation, I was not referring to Startek or WIS.

I dont mind that not everything is dead-easy. It does take some level of experience to mess with a Mercedes. I would never say it suits the novice. I have seen some novices have a go and i was never impressed with the end result. Invariably something missing or done backwards.

Kiders; within the thread that DB provided the link to, there is a message that explains how to reconfigure the wiring harness from the 5" display harness (two plus), to work on a 7"display. As you have discovered the 7: display used one plug and 7 of the 8 wires. The 5" display uses two plugs, one smaller flatter plug with 3 of 4 wires connected. Message #143 on Page 15, will tell you the information you seek on that thread, as that corrects the pinout error in the diagram provided in message #63 (shows 5" display harness and 7"display harness) on page 7. So take the drawing in #63, relabel the pinouts as stated in message #143, then connect the wires as it is shown in message #63.

Actually the use of OEM materials starts on page 7, but as DB stated, it can be quite interesting to get information on StarTekInfo/WIS, etc if you don't take you time. :wallbash:

What precisely is the hurry I wonder.

Simply purchasing the retrofit harness would have ensured that all of the connections and wires were available. A quick serach on the COMAND wiring gives all of the connections. I dont find anything mysterious which is already available on ebay as a conversion cable.

All the first 160 posts can be condensed into 2 posts at the outset.
