Hi guys,

Newbie question: how can I get the outdoor temperature displayed in the multifunction display (the one just above the steering wheel)?

Apparently it should be in the bottom left corner, but I have the km/h speed instead, which frankly I could not care less about.

I had a look in the online manual and it says that the outdoor display function is not available in the UK. Am I missing something? Of course, I did set "outdoor temperature" instead of "Additional speedometer" in the multifunction display settings, but regardless of my choice, I always get the km/h speed in the bottom left corner.

Thank you for your attention,

Fab

I'm not familiar with the W205, but all other UK Mercs suffer the same problem of only being able to display outside temp on one choice of computer display.

On my CLS and others, you only get to see the outside temp on the simple total miles page. If you select any other page (mpg, Nav, Audio etc) then you have to manage without temp.

As above.

This is a feature on UK cars only.

On some models it is possible to carry-out 'delete UK mode' using STAR computer, which will revert back the temperature display to European spec ie present at all times. I had this done on my W203.

But I don't know if this is possible for the W205, and also what effect this may have on the warranty.

This was an issue on the W204, but not the W205.

I've had both.

In my UK W205 (C200) I have the outside temp permanently displayed in the bottom LHS corner.
Speed in Km/H is permanently displayed in the Top LHS display.

I'll grab a photo later.

I haven't seen any settings which allow these to be adjusted.

Thanks Paul, if you could post a picture when you get the chance, that would be great :-)

It should be on the bottom right side on the display cluster.

Sorry for the poor photo

Thanks a lot Paul!

The good news is that it is possible to have the outdoor temperature display on a w205 C Class.

However, I am still struggling to set it up, because even if I have found what appears to be the appropriate option in the menu, if I press the OK button the display settings do not change and I still have the Km/h speed indicator in the bottom left corner.

It's becoming embarrassing now, as I am sure I might have missed something obvious, but still I have not got a clue of what that might be :dk:

I wonder if its to do with the Charge indicator in the top right hand corner, only affecting the C300 Hybrid.

Good point actually...
Tomorrow I will check directly with the dealer and see if I have missed something.
Cheers

how you finding the car by the way? As you can see I've the same engine in my E, found that to be a great car, but have opted for the C350e on order now, hopefully get it this year! Delays reported so I'm tempted to what you have....

Hi, I had my C300 for exactly one week and overall I am very pleased with it. I loaded it with pretty much all the available optional extras, with the exception of privacy glass and the "perfume dispenser".
Maybe what I like the most is that the agility control does really make an impressive difference on my car because of the Airmatic suspension: each mode gives the driver a very distinctive feeling and in some respects it is like having at least 3 cars in one.

When I ordered my C300 in January I already knew about the C350, but due to my current commuting route (20% urban + 80% motorway) I preferred to have a diesel. Nevertheless, I would be very interested in seeing how the C350 compares to mine in a real life scenario.

So far so good, and there are so many new features to discover that make me look forward to the next journey :-)

I had a chat with a very nice MB customer care advisor, who literally told me that on my C300 the outdoor temperature display "is not available due to EU regulations according to which any car sold in the UK must display speed in both the imperial and the metric standard".
When I objected that it was just poor design, because such EU regulations did not prevent any other car manufacturer from arranging the display so that it could show both the speed in the dual format AND the outdoor temperature, her polite answer was that it was "still a EU requirement" and "she could not comment on other car manufacturers".

That was probably the official information that she had been given by MB UK, but as far as I am concerned such a perfect example of EU bashing for no reason would have been better placed on the front cover of the Daily Mail. Something along the lines of "EU red tape gone mad: Brussels removes outdoor temperature displays".

It is NOT an EU requirement.

MB UK got this wrong. Fact....

Several threads on this issue here.

The EU requirement is to be able to display either MPG or KMH, but not necessarily both at the same time.

Quite a few cars have digital speedometers (many Renaults do), and these can display speed as either one or the other but not both at the same time. So when set to MPH there is no KMH display, and that's perfectly legal.

MB are the only manufacturer to interpret the regulations in this way.

So yes, it is poor design, and MB UK are making up stories about EU regulations to cover it up.

I deleted 'UK Mode' on my car, and it can now display perfectly legally KMH whenever I want it too.

Definitely that is something that I will mention to the dealer, as from my perspective it is completely absurd that such a basic feature is not available on a brand new car... and especially on a Mercedes. I hope he will not tell me to use the weather app if I want to display the outdoor temperature ;-)If the only solution is to disable to the UK mode, then let's do it, but I want them to do it under warranty. Otherwise a really hope that a new version of the car software can address this issue.

The slight difficulty is that while you can certainly expose their argument that this is an EU requirement as false, the fact remains that even if they do agree that this is just a bad design feature, there is no obligation on MB to display the outside temperature on your car's dashboard.

You could (in theory) end-up with them saying 'you are right, this has nothing to do with the EU, but this is how we design our cars...'

Given that this issue dates back at least as as far as my 2006 W203, I doubt that MB will be changing this in new firmware upgrades.

With regards deleting UK Mode, (a) you need to check with someone who has STAR if this is possible for your model, and (b) as you rightly pointed-out I would not do this before the 3-years warranty is out.

Sorry if this is not the good news you were hoping to hear....

This isn't the only design retrofeature.....later 204s don't update their clocks for BST nowadays, don't know about 205s, though.

Did anyone ever get this issue resolved in the UK.
Just got my new C300 on Friday and it has same problem.
Can I ask dealer to delete "UK mode". Will that affect anything else significant?

I also have this on an new to me E class CD 220 and its very disappointing, would really like to have the Trip View and the Temperature.
