When i plug the usb lead for my iphone into the car it recognises the media but does not charge the phone?

The car is a W207 2011 facelift model with comand, i thought connecting through the usb port would charge the phone?

From what I remember, not enough current is sent that way, so it wont charge.

Ok, I have a later COMAND but mine charges the iPhone5 no problem.... but won't recognise any media :)
(Only BT linking and Hotspot use here, but they are flawless)

Try another cable perhaps? Most USB 5VDC supplies will run to 500mA so it's enough. Got any other USB devices or media connections online in the car?

yep tried a different cable, it connects and the phone vibrates but it does not have the charge indicator on the iphone.

You need to use the correct Mercedes-Benz iPod / iPhone interface cable, not the standard Apple USB lead. The device will then charge and you will have full control of it from the car's audio controls.

Cars with Comand have media interface. You get a 3 cable set, aux input, USB and Ipod. Use the 30pin Ipod cable, but for Iphone5 you will need the Apple converter.

Thank you, do you know what the cable is called. Im guessing they are going to be expensive from Merc?

Funny thing is when i plug my ipod in using the USB port it picks up fine and lets me control it from the car but not the iphone5

You should have got them with your car. have you checked your car has the media interface connector? Comand Online will be able to supply them or you can find them on ebay. They are the media interface cables.
