Hi All

I currently have an intermittent Supercharger problem where the charger just drops out causing a loss of power. Had it on Star today and it is showing that the issue is the Air Bypass Valve or Air recirculating valve as it is sometimes known (the one on the side of the airbox). Now I am told that it often throws up this code and fault even though the valve is not the offending article and it could be down to other issues. Others tell me this is a common problem (we have never changed one in 22 years)

What I am after is a bypass valve that someone knows to be good so I can swap it out for the one I have and see if that cures the problem, willing to buy it or if someone could loan me one to test that would be even better.

Don't want to fork out a fortune on a new one if it is not the cause. I'm pretty sure it is but would like to satisfy myself first.

All help suggestions appreciated.

TIA

Hi
I had a similar problem on my CLK 230.

See attached photo, but quite simply there is a jubilee clip here and mine wasn’t very firm, I could detach the unit apart with a pull, tightened the clip and never had the problem return also same issue if you have a split in the pipe.

Putting my foot down would cause the s/c to drop, and then if i turned the speed limiter on it would give me a speedtronic fault.

Everything cleared up once this was tightened up properly.

May be totally wrong but this worked for me.

Mine is a little different to that as its a pre face lift car. Checked all hoses and clips and everything is fine cant find any leaks.

When I had the 210 with a 200k engine I got the same fault , it was fixed by changing this valve . I got mine second hand from Dronsfield , it cost around 100 pounds

The valves are known to fail.

It should be A1110980009

Just replied sorry for late post but away in Germany and not had Internet access :(

Well a very big thanks to carat 3.6 amg it really shows how brilliant this forum is, carat 3.6 amg came up trumps with an airbypass valve for me but unfortunately despite our best efforts yesterday the valve has not cured the problem. Nothing showing on Star but supercharger keeps dropping out.

looks like now we will have to remove the supercharger and renew all the piping it's the only thing I can think of that may be causing the issue, all electrics and supercharger clutch checked and no issues there.

If anyone has any other ideas I would be really grateful to hear them as this is now driving me insane, but I'm now overseas for 10 days so it's going to have to wait until I return

Thanks for all the help so far guys :thumb:

Already done that definitely not a MAF issue you can hear the supercharger lose it's whine, Thanks

Sorted !!!!!!!!!!!

Well I finally manged the time to bottom out this problem, what I thought was a supercharger or bypass valve problem as reported by Star was nothing of the sort.

Finally decided to go back to basics and get some live data logged under various driving conditions, unfortunately due to the position of the 38 pin data connector under the bonnet this is not as easy as it seems so needed extra length cables ordering in. Used snap on racetech diagnostics as this gave a greater level of interrogation .

The problem using this setup was easily identified as the camshaft magnet sensor, this reported fine under stationery conditions at various revs but was clearly faulty when driving under load however the fault did not log any codes.

A trip to MB Sheffield and £59 later and the car is back in fine fettle and will be going down to this month's Yorkshire/Derbyshire curry night. Whilst I was at it gave it a full service too so all it needs now is a bit of a valet and some wax protection for Winter.

Just thought I would post the above in case it helps someone else before they pull there supercharger to bits :D but just shows for intermittent problems get the live data logged it could save you a fortune in the long run :thumb:
