W208 CLK 320 - Some engine issues

I've been quoted £50 including VAT for one new Bosch coil pack from TT Automotive Loughborough. I didn't expect that kind of a price :(

Thats cheap if its the right one, MB charge around £140 for each one

Yes. MB wanted £25 for one HT lead. I got the exact same part for £8.25 from TT Automotive, including next day shipping at no extra cost.

The Bosch part number on the original coil pack ends with 012 but now Bosch have changed the last two ending digits to 35. I rang Bosch and they said its the exact same part, just a tad different part number.

Just got back from the MB Indy.

For some strange reason, his STAR machine is showing no faults under Motor electronics 2.

Either there is something wrong with his STAR software or he doesn't know how to use it??

It looks like I will have to stick with MB Leicester and be prepared to take my wallet out...

Did he not check the live data?

Nope. I even showed him the paper copy of the MB STAR report and his answer is that he has no idea.

Find a new indy.

I contacted Jay @ Mercland but considering his labour rate and fuel costs (round trip) and the possibility of making another trip seems expensive compared to going through the MB Leicester route, at.£36 an hour. I haven't been quoted a cheaper labour rate by other mechanics I have contacted - really surprised tbh.

Can you shed some light on the P0300 code? Putting aside the P0304 code for the time being (a coil pack swap test will give an answer for this code hopefully), can a faulty MAF cause random msfires?

Also, am I correct in assuming that its very un-likely that all the coil packs are faulty? Because if this was the case, the engine would not be firing properly in all cylinders.

I would like to aviod buying a new MAF since they are expensive - 180 GBP at ECP :(

I will get a quote from TT Automotive as well incase a better price...

MB Leicesters rate is £36 an hour ? Really ?!

My local dealership ( brooklands ) is about £100 an hour

Tell me about it! Last week I got 12 HT Leads fitted and it only cost £36 inc VAT! I supplied parts.

I think its because its an.old car, they are easy/simple to work on?? No idea.

Plus I had the car in under the Drop & Go scheme... I don't know if that makes a difference to the going rate.

Or maybe because its one of the best engines MB have made, and they are giving a gesture of good will due to that :) :) :)

Isn't the £36.00 for half an hour, £72.00 hour plus vat £86.40 seems more likely for an MB Main Dealer

I'm still finding it hard to believe also :)

I asked the chap at MB howmuch dollars I will need to take out. His reply was 'well you're looking at a couple of hours of labour to swap coil packs so around a £100 (when I mentioned dollars, I didn't actually mean dollars) at £36 per hour'. So assuming the word couple meant 3...

3 * 36 = £108 inc VAT (he did say about 2 to 3 hours so assuming the longest period)

Are you 100% sure he didn't mean £100 an hour ?

Before I speak to the MB technician to get the car booked in, I want to know some basics of the misfiring codes logged in the ECU.

What's the meaning of '067' on the end of code P0300-067?

Also, what's the meaning of '069' on the end of code P0304-069?

Thanks.

Have you replaced the MAF? The codes I've just read point to a faulty MAF. Multiple misfire codes and a maf code show this. Done this kind if work 100 times. MAF's are not expensive.
