hi all

i have a w208 200k on an x plate (2000). now we are gettin around 22 - 23 mpg around town and i was expexting more. i dont now when it was serviced last so was going to give it a quick service, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs. i could do with a few pointers as to where the oil and fuek filters are and also the drain plug for the oil.

will this make a difference??? i have plugged it into a diagnostic machine and have no faults.

With all respect, if you have to ask these questions I would suggest you have whomsoever has the "diagnostic machine" do the service for you.

Fuel consumption is very dependent on driving style and where one drives. In town that may not be unexpected?

I have a 2000 clk 230 k and i'm achieving around those figures around town, if not less. I was also pretty surprised by this when I first got the car. MPG improves on 'a long run' to around the high 30's mpg. I've found that I have to be extremely gentle with the accelerator at all times and giving it the occasional blast only results in reaching the next set of lights, slowest car in front etc faster.

If you choose to drive at 30mph or 50 mph over 10 miles, you're saving a couple of minutes and/or you'll end up 'stop-starting' with some probable harsh braking and that won't help.

I have a friend who has a Citroen and it regularly achieves around 70mpg!!!
