W209 320Cdi Onging Engine problems

Well I've tried removing the link from actuator to turbo. No further actuator faults, but thowing up various fuel/air metering issues as the turbo is "underboosting" - fully expecting that. The linkage is totally free at the turbo end.

Well I've spoken to people and I have three options now, according to who I listen to:

Exchange Actuator, to replace existing one which has play in gears.

Test and replace DPF because it is blocked (never ever had a DPF fault on vehicle)

New turbocharger.

Help?

Don't waste time - get a new Turbo from Tom, all set up and ready to go... then ENJOY!!! Trust me tom & his crew at Turbo Dynamics did my car the world of good.. it was another vehicle, had a 6 speed manual.. under the old regime, and reconned Sh1t, 6th gear was nigh on useless.. when I got the new turbo back from tom, complete with test graph and pass certificate it reinstated the use of 6th gear as I could overtake with confidence..

I think I've enabled that.

Did speak to a local garage last week, they gave me an estimate of £1400 to fit a new turbo... thats out of my price range.:(

First off, a big thanks to everyone who gave me advice about this, it has been one of the most fustrating vehicle issues I've dealt with in a long time.

Anyway, I spoke to the reconditioners of my actuator and got them to send me another unit, on an exhange basis. Fitted this and now a week later and its as good as gold. I'd determined that the problem was not eletronic, but mechanical, which left the actual turbo or the mechanical part of the acuator. To cut a long story short, my original unit was repaired and noted "broken link, some play in gears". Well, I opened the unit and this is what I found:

Its not apparent in the photo but there is also a tooth missing from the quadrant, and when it gets to that particular position there is about 6mm play in the arm.

So, it looks like they totally missed this when they reconditioned it. And as for thier bench testing, it seems to be totally inadequate. I've decided I'm not going to name and shame them as they have been very helpful in rectifying this, its just a pity they tested and despatched this unit twice in this condition.
