Hi - I'm looking to hide my GPS antenna under the dash after retro fitting an Audio 50 unit. Have read that the centre vents simply pull out with pulling hooks.
I have located the retaining clips within the vents on each side (left & right) and hooked and pulled but it seems like there is something else securing the vents in the centre section where the thumb wheel vent adjusters are ? I'm worried if I pull any harder something will snap !
Any advise would be much appreciated (and allow me to get that GPS antenna of the top of my dash !)

Thanks for the info chitaxmoto - I have already looked on Mercupgrades.com without success - Do you have the specific web address please ? - Mine is a W209 facelift model with the round style vents.

There are 4 screws. The centre panel around the rotary knobs clips off (really carefully, with your finger nails !) to reveal the screws once removed you can remove the vents by releasing the clips you already found. The panel is an inlay within the overall vent, so only the coloured bit and not the chrome trim comes off.

Consider putting the GPS antenna above the cluster ...

(ps, next time I do one i'll photo and put on mercupgrades.com)

Richard, Thanks for that - just the job! (good job I have fingernails too !!)
Are you suggesting the GPS antenna works better when placed above the cluster ?

Hi

You need to be careful of the metal grille (cant remember if CLK has it) on top of the dash as it reduces signal strength.

MB official retrofit position is above the cluster, but as long as it has a good clear view of the sky (with only plastic or glass above) it will work fine.

2005 on W209 CLK's have a whopping metal (looking) grille above the vent controls...
