Quick question - what do the plastic moulded things between the rear headrests do?

I don't see anything in the manual so I am getting mighty curious

are these the orange coloured markers that pop up when the rear seats are folded down?

Why would we need markers to let me know the seat(s) are folded?

If I look back to see the marker I should (but won't take for granted) that I can see the flippin' seats are down!

the orange markers show the seat backs are not locked.
