Facelift CLK55 W209 Convertible
Hi All,

So only having owned my facelift 2005 CLK55 for a few months which has been an absolute joy the time has come to start looking at replacing my front discs as there is a slight lip on the edge. I was down at Olly's recently and he picked up on the fact that it had 'floating' front discs which are amazing brakes but not cheap to replace and my god was he right! MB have quoted £607.20 for EACH disc!!!

Any advice on alterntives with as good performance would be much appreciated. I have had a look around and there doesn't appear to be any :-(

Thanks guys....

Yup - We've had a look before and they are only available from Mercedes - Our list price is £659 each! so £610 isn't bad! :( (i say that, but im not the one who has to pay for them )

The good news is we stock ATE Pads for the front atleast :)

ATE Brake Pads (Front)
Part No.: 101221115
Web Price: £111.60 (Priced Per Axle)]
Forum Price: £78.12

My lack of MB knowledge will show, but I recently had replaced both front discs and pads on a 1999 CLK320 (W208) by the tyre supplier ATS. They charged me £200 (total) fitted. Might it be worth seeing if they have an offering?

Nooooooooo!!!!!

Don't mean to be rude Auto.... But the 55 and 320 are totally different in all ways.... I used to have a CLK55 Cab and had a bill for £1600 odd just for front pads and discs..... As mentioned the only safe option is OEM combined with AMG prices....

Thanks for all the input guys and thought just as much but no harm in putting it out there!

Just out of interest - what is the difference between the 2 discs on the ECP website? Apart from the part number and 30 odd quid I am baffled....

OEM Brake Disc (Front) Part No.: 104221870 - £626.40

OEM Brake Disc (Front) Part No.: 104221875 - £658.39

The last part number denotes brand, 0 is Geniune and 5 is ATE i believe.

However i think they all come from MB as they are not yet available in the aftermarket (the fact that there are ATE part numbers means we're not long away till they are allowed to release them [MB will have the rights to the cast for x years]

Naz.... Ian at 124 Works (can't remember new name) did manage to find 3rd party discs and pads for one of his customers irc... Drop him a line...

Thanks guys - much appreciated!

I am sure one part number is for a left hand disc and the other for a right hand disc? These discs are directional.

Thanks guys - much appreciated!

I know its a bit off topic, however we have recently got hold of Audi RS4 discs - until now they have only been available from Audi

Pagid supply these to us, straight off the Audi production line, Although this means there is up to a 90 day wait between batches, it gives us availability to a range of discs that nobody else has!

The fact that we have a second part number setup (other than the genuine one) leads me to believe that the team are trying to source these discs aswell! :thumb:

It might not help you, but hopefully it will help somebody in the future!

After much research the conclusion was original MB discs and pads supplied and fitted by Olly/Jack down at PCS. Thanks Guys.

all round discs and pads for my CLS55 (from ECP [all Pagid, OEM supplier to MB], except for rear discs which were from MB [as cheaper than ECP) was a mere £260!!

Bargain!

If you dont mind, could you PM me the details for the Rear Discs - Ill get the Braking team to look into the price difference! :thumb:

Wow - you have done well! May be it's time to move on to a CLS55...

I got quoted £2300 for new front discs and pads on the C63 by MB :(

how many miles have you done?
ive done 37,500 miles its just been serviced and the report is showing:

Pads fronts wear 60-70% rears wear 50%
Discs fronts wear 50% rears wear 50%

ive seen the pics of yours id like to think MB would help you a bit on those:dk:

17000 miles, I did not swap out the discs in the end. They have little dimples on the very outer edge which are wear indicators, once they vanish it is time to change.
