w210 5 speed auto fluid change £150 ?

I paid about £85 if I am not mistaken - don't you need to get the filter and the adapter plug done at the same time ?

not sure

That was the price I was just quoted by a place in smethwick
Where did you have yours done ?

mercstar in Wealdstone - no problem with the guy , but would be very muchmore comfortable if he spruced the place up , apart from that , no problem - has Star Diags and seems to know his way around mercs .

I would ask the question about the other items - what car/box is it ..?

Its a very easy job and not really £150 worth.. id say the parts needed come to between £35-40 and maybe £60 labour so at tops £100...

The box fluid for the 722.6 box is expensive and if the fluid is replaced properly 7.5 litres. From memory its about £8.05 a litre + VAT. 7.5 x £8.05 = £74.94. Plus the filter £10ish. Plus the labour of roughly 1.5 hrs.

£150 is not a bad price.

You can only change about 4.5 litres on the later box - the torque doesn't have a drain plug - so unless you want to drill a hole in it ....

There is mention of removing valve blocks and running the box with the oil cooler split but I'm not sure I like the idea .

You can remove the gearbox cooler pipes and let the atf pump out with the engine running. Only take a few seconds to drain it all.

Common practice in main dealers (I used to do it!)

£150 sounds fair to me, but for that price I'd want the all the old fluid out.

Theres a HOWTO thread in here if you're happy to do it yourself.

Andy gayle gave me the price (someone who works there) in Smethwick its near to me so it would be handy

I am sure if you are preapred to travel some of the specialists here maybe able to save you 10-20quid....

Well worth doing and C55's tip sounds good.
