W210 door rust - new MB procedure?

Hi

Just got back from MB where they have agreed various bits of work on my 51 plate E220 estate.
New front wing
Repair to other front wing
and some rework on repairs carried out 15 months ago (they themselves were rework to work carried out 12 months prior to that)...
Boot lid near handle
Rear doors under rubbers.

Now, the interesting thing was that the MB bodyshop chap responsible for getting the repairs agreed with MB tells me that the new procedure (yes another one!) is to cut the edge of the door under the rubber away!

Well that will certainly get rid of the rusted part but I don't like the sound of it. Has anyone else any experience of this?

The MB guy admitted that they were astonished on the training course when they heard of the new process.

Yes, cut the channel off and stick the seal on with silicone sealant. Honestly.
Well at least it won't rust again.

There is some logic to this because it's difficult to sandblast and paint under the channel so it continiues to rust. This is why they rust in the first place.

I can confirm that this is the new method.....the bodyshop I use is an MB approved site and this is what they are doing now.

Yes, I've just had this treatment done to my 02 plate E240 Estate! Time will tell if it is effective "treatment" or not.

#4 That's exactly what I worry about!

Still you had me laughing:)
