Hi guys. I'm new to all this, but here goes. My E230 estate ('97 P reg) has done 183000 miles but recently started playing up. When cold the car starts fine and idles properly for about 5-10 seconds. Then the idle speed starts to falter and drop, sometimes stalling and other times 'chugging' until I give it a little bit of throttle. When its warmed up it's fine. Been to local garage, main dealer and auto electrician, replaced camshaft sensor,MAF sensor and throttle body ( a new one was uneconomic, so got one from a breaker from a newer car). Sadly the problem still persists and I'm running out of options. Great car, shame about the rust!! Can anybody please help?

Was it a Bosch maf fitted?

Have you had it on a Star?

Got the MAF via ebay. Don't think it's a Bosch one, Hate to sound stupid, what's a 'Star'?

Star is scanning tool that MB use for their workshops. Some independent repaiers use it as well. Thats the best and the only proper tool to use with Mercs.

On other side if your MAF wasnt Bosch or was already faulty on old car then you still might have problems. Unfortunetly MAF`s are VERRYYYYY common on Mercs.
