E270CDI ('00)
Hi all,

I'm becoming quite desperate in this one... (have a '00 E270CDI)

Since some time, now and then, my engine becomes limited in torque (and thus speed).
When this issue occurs, WOT shift points are at 1800rpm and I can keep accelerating in 5th gear very slowly untill some 2600rpm (130-140kph).
I think this means I only have some 100-150Nm available anymore.

I went to the mercedes dealer and connected it to the star, but (as I'm missing the report 'till now) they found nothing special. (Did request to change my intercooler which was broken, an injector, ... but nothing changed for this issue)
Nevertheless, when a engine speed limitation occurs I would expect a fault code to be logged (I'm in automotive development and we do it anyway).

Other times, nothing occurs and I can accelerate like hell to almost max vehicle speed...

I've replaced the MAF some time ago, cleaned it again, cleaned the connectors of some pressure sensors, but the issue keeps occuring.

Can anybody help me on this one?

Thanks a lot

I had similar with my E220cdi. I suspect your car is ging into limp home mode.
I thought it was the MAF but it turned out to be the cam & crank sensors not communicating. It was pot luck which sensor to change, turned out to be the cam sensor & relatively cheap to fix.

if it was difference/non-communication between crank and camshaft sensors, shouldn't this fault be logged into error memory as a specific P-code?

Wifes car just died due to cps fault and there was a p code for it logged.

But i am sure i have read on the yank sites they dont always log a code, this is a petrol engine but codes the same.

I'm told that a code is logged but the recomendation is to ignore & clear it unless the customer has a specific issue..... As I had at the time & the garage could find nothing else wrong with the car.
