Hi, I am new on here, hope somebody can help me?

I ahve a W210 E320 cdi on a 52 plate. I have had it 2 years, and this problem has been evident ever since I have had it:

When it is very cold outside in the mornings, it turns over, but will not always start. When it is not cold it starts immediately every time.

It does not fire at all, I had the glow plugs changed last winter, no difference.

If I am lucky, it might go on the 4th or 5th turn of the key, and once it is running it is absolutely fine, no misfiring, not lumpy, runs like a dream - and will always start up again forst time once it has been running.

It seems to be a bit worse this winter. I have on a few (and I know I should not, but sometimes have had no choice) used a little spray of easy start (I have probably only done this 5 or 6 times in 2.5 years). That alwats gets it going, so I have to keep it as a last resort.

I have read some threads saying it could be O rings and air getting in? If this were the case would it fire at all, or sound like it was trying to start? Because it does not, it just turns over, and sounds like no fuel is getting in.

Also I have read of EGR problems? I have no idea what that is, but can anyone help?

I am booking it into my local MB indie garage next week, I am hoping they will track it down, but I dont really want to start throwing money at it until the problem has been isolated.

Any advice please?

Many thanks

It could be a few things:

the fuel plastic pipes are letting air in/fuel out around the O rings - very cold temps make them contract a little more and thus reducing the sealing affect. This then leads to having to clear the air out of the system to get fuel to the injectors. The 3 pipes are about £40 from a dealer (complete with O rings) as they do get brittle over time.

The injectors are leaking off too much and therefore the pressure is not high enough for them to fire into the engine - get them checked out/reconned if needed.

This has all happened to mine. I replaced the pipes as they were leaking. then a month or so later the symptons started showing again (november/december) checked the leak off of the injectors and 2 were showing too high a value; so decided to replace all 6 - no problems since and starts within a couple of turns even in this cold spell we have had.

gutted

turned out to be a leak from the body of the high pressure pump.

Had the plastic pipes changed, and O rings, no better, then they found a diesel leak from the high pressure pump.

Total bill £904.00

Thats it for me an Mercs, that was a bill from my local independent merc specialist - and along the way they advised I need wishbone bushes replacing, and anti roll bar links - which together will be about another £300-400.

On top of that my daughter seems to have jumped on the passenger seat a bit hard and the SRS light on the dash is now permanently on. Probably another £200 to sort.

Its going. I cant handle bills like that out of the blue.

I am gutted. Its a nice car, but that is ridiculous.

thats a bit over the top for a fuel leake that price plastic pipes about 60 for all 3 pipes including the vat cant see where the other 800 pounds has come from then not of cost that a the dealerships to fix i be asking why and wanting to see where and wots cost that may be you got a rip off indie on your hands theres lots of them around just got to fish the good ones out my freind
