W210 estate rear screen washer

My rear washer jet is not delivering water to the screen. I can hear the pump, the reservoir is full of water and the wiper works. I started to take off the boot door trim to get at the pump and pipes but it is proving difficult to do. Has anyone come across this before and can guide me on how to get at the pump area? Is there a common problem with rear washer that I'm not aware of?

Have you tried pricking the jets to clear them? - I use a thin guitar string.

If you have not got water pouring out of the wrong places then expect jets blocked with fur like in the kettle. Tip the crud out of the wash bottle(s) and hose the muck out, refill with cooled boiled water (won't fur up) and screen wash.

All you fill find behind the trim is a pipe leading to the wiper motor, probably not a problem there.

When I had a 210, the rear wash pump was fitted in the bottom of the reservoir - is yours elsewhere? If you can hear the pump running, then suspect either a blockage or a detached/split pipe. You can usually tell if you have a detached or split pipe, as you'll see screenwash running out of places it shouldn't.

The wash bottles can be lifted out and up-ended (the front one is loose, the main on a couple of screws), you can even get at the pumps which are a sort-of push fit. I gave my bottles a wash out with some warm suds, and flushed the gunge out with the hose jet (not the pressure washer).

On the estate the two bottles are connected, there's no separate bottle for the rear. Not a brilliant idea but it does give a bigger reservoir whilst allowing some access to the light bulbs. Imo it could use a reservoir 2 or 3 times the size, I seem to remember a SAAB reservoir used the entire inner wing for the job, seemed to be about 5 gallons.

I had this problem and the pipe had become detached within the tailgate. Was not immediately obvious until you check for water collecting, in my case, in the rear child seat footwell area. Suggest you check for this first.

rear washer

Hi, thanks for posting jgannon.
I have the same problem with my Vaneo.
Last year when it stopped working, it was because the end of the pipe had become squashed when closing the boot.
This year when it stopped again, I took it to the garage and my mechanic tried the fixing tailgate pipe again, checked the pump, tried clearing it, then suggested the only way to get at it (the pipe) would be to take the internal roof (fabric) off, which it isn't designed to do, so best I leave it and do without a rear washer.:wallbash:
It's a bit frustrating (and potentially dangerous), especially in this snowy weather and when it gets dirty, particularly on motorways.
Any other suggestions/encouragement would be appreciated...?

Hmm

My W203 estate blows the pipe off the wiper motor in the tail gate if there is any back pressure (frozen or blocked jets). It has also broken the the pipe connector on the motor. MB told me this is a known problem. FYI: If you tie wrap the pipe to the motor it then breaks the fitting on the motor.

You notice the shower when you open the tailgate. I believe a new motor was £40 ish.

Good luck.

Thanks - will keep trying. I imagine scuzz (or was in fuzz? - no, it was/is fur, muck and gunge that was mentioned! Well I imagine all of that)
Keep initiatives coming - I like the guitar string idea - an E string?

I had a similar problem on my W211 estate, If the pump is running it means that if there is no flow out of the nozzle & the nozzle has been cleaned, either the pipe is blocked or disconnected. In my case I removed the off side trim panelling in the boot area (just above the battery & to the right) & found the tube had come adrift.(lots of screenwash was sprayed around the area)
Pushing the tube back onto the connector did the trick

Same problem on my W211 estate....will try the nozzle and then the trim; hope that should do the trick. If I have no E string guitar wire, could I use a G-string? ;o)

w210 estate rear washer leak

The rear washer does not deliver water and water is leaking out the bottom of the rear door. I'm assuming the pipe is loose at the nozzle, but how do I get to to it?

Do I remove the whole rear door trim? What about these plastic poppers?

Thanks for your help.
