Hi, can anybody help please. My high pressure fuel pump is leaking on one of the heads, it's part number is A613 070 00 01 I have searched for another one and been supplied a second hand pump with a part number A611 070 05 01 the pump is identical to look at and so I have fitted it. My car is now surging/hunting on tick over, it had done this before to me but not as prominent as it is now and only a couple of times. The reason I'm asking this question is because if I hadn't had the problem in the past I would blame the new second hand pump, but because it was there intermitantly I'm not sure if this pump is compatible or not.
I have spoken to local MB dealership and all they can confirm is that the old number is correct for my chassis number. They can not / will not tell me if the secondhand pump is compatible to my car hence causing my problem any advice help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for that imformation, much appreciated. I don't suppose you would know why it's not compatable only apart from the surgeing during idling, and not all the time it seems to rev fine. Im just curious as to what the difference is between the two pumps?

I recently changed one of these for a neighbour of mine , he bought 2 secondhand pumps of ebay and they both leaked once fitted ! Ended up buying a new pump from euros for around £180 which did the job , came with 1 year warranty , might save you a bit of hassle in the long run

Cannot explain why they are not compatible, must be internal differences. The second part number you quoted seems to fit more than one model but the one for your vehicle only lists one part number.

There are seal kits available for the pumps if you want to try it on your old one.

ECP show 2 @ £220 and £400 (exchange) so for that I would see if you old one can be refurbed

Thanks Gav I have just bought one today from Euros £175 + vat as you mention with a full years warranty

Thanks Bob, I was just curious as to what the difference was, it seems strange that the car now has trouble idling yet seems to pull ok when driving, I would have expected it to be the other way around. I have bought a pump from euros today for £175 + vat with a years warranty will try and fit it tomorrow if I get time, will let you know the outcome.
Thanks Nobby

Well good news bad news, new pump fitted no leaks, trouble is car still wont start. I changed the pump because it was sweating from one of the heads and thought if it was leaking, when switched off it could be drawing in air. If I crank it over there is no air bubbles in the fuel lines any more, it will either start as it should or crank for ages before fireing up, if I give it a squirt of easy start it starts straight away. It can do this non starting thing at any time hot cold even if you just switch it off. Does anybody know what the RPM'S should be when cranking? and any ideas whats stopping it from starting? if I plug a Snap on Solus into it, it says under live data im getting no fuel injected and only 59 rpm while cranking is this ok? It has a brand new varta battery fitted and does not sound slow at cranking car sounds normal.
Help please.

I think it all about fuel pressure, ecu won't allow injection unless pressure is around 250 bar. Now there may be internal leak somewhere.

Check that the pumps fuel pipes are connected the correct way around.

mersum1es....it would not start at all...

As per my previous post, check fuel connections to pump are the correct way round!.

At the same post: I assume it also keeps running or am I missing something?

mersum1es, My mistake....You are correct. Just re-read post #8 and it does seem to suggest that it starts and continues to run after using easy start..... so my suggestion of pipes the wrong way round doesn't apply in this case.

If memory is correct, the pipe from the low pressure pump goes to the rear of the high pressure pump pipe connectors, me as a mercedes main dealer tech have put the pipes on the wrong way round! Easy done

Definitely the right way round, because the intermediate pipe from the fuel heater will not reach the front connection, and as soon as it starts it carrys on no probs.

Definitely the right way round, because the intermediate pipe from the fuel heater will not reach the front connection, and as soon as it starts it carries on no probs.

More than likely air in the fuel pipes then, while the engine is running watch the clear fuel pipe from the fuel filter to the pump for any sign of air bubbles.

Other than that it could be a faulty injector(s).

Do a leak off test.
