Mercedes W210 E240 **********e
Hi Folks,
I am new to the forum, and new to Mercedes ownership
I have a E240 W210 **********e which has been in the garage for the last 2 weeks.
Symptoms -
ABS + BAS Lights on
Electric Windows not going back up smoothly
Gears were sticking, some have referred to this as "limp mode" but basically driving along the motoroway the car would stick in gear and not shift up
Drive/Park to Reverse sometimes doesnt engage first time either

Having read various threads on the forum, the first possible cause was the battery. So the garage replaced this and it hasnt fixed the problem
The next port of call was to replace the ABS Sensor, again this hasnt fixed the problem but when it was done the mechanic noticed the Reluctor Ring was broken
Phoned around a few local suppliers of parts but none have one for a W210 Mercedes.
I have found a couple websites, most looking for about £60-£70 delivered for the Ring alone.

Does anyone know somewhere where i can get a cheaper ring for a W210?
My fear now is that he replaces this ring, clears the error code and it doesnt solve the "limp mode" issue of gears sticking.
Does anyone have any advice as to what else may be the cause?

Many thanks,

Barry

How about ten quid?
eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Broken reluctor (not a very common fault) will give faults, but not that list. Don't assume the reluctor is broken without evidence.

Windows not running up and down - needs the runners cleaned with a toothbrush and suds. Also a window reset by manually operating (1st notch) and holding until it stops clicking top and bottom.
General electrical faults (ESP+BAS etc) incl lazy windows could be tired battery.
Brake light switch (BLS) £13 willl also produce BAS/ESP/ABS faults. Common fault. DIY job.

Gearbox - do check the W/S is not stuck in W mode. W pushes a peg down into the switch proper, if that does not come back up when you engage S-mode then it stays in W with sluggish gear changes up to ~40mph. Are you pulling away in 1st S or 2nd W gear? Simple fix, clean it.
