W210 voltage drop!!

Hi all, just a quick one, is it true that if the battery voltage goes down, the car can go into a fit and wont change up the gears?

The reason i ask, is that mine is locked in 1st and wont change up.

The car is a e230 5-speed auto 1997

i do know for sure the guy i just bought it off, said the battery had drained, but the car has also been sat for 6 month's doing nothing.

Has anyone else had this problem, and what did you do to correct it?

Any help would be most helpful
this is my 1st merc and dont know to much about them.

I doubt that is the issue, many cars have been started from flat battery status and don't have gear selection issues.

What did the codes suggest.?

As has already been said in previous threads for your issue, get the codes read.

This is pertinent though and I do think it's related unless codes say otherwise..

hi all, my e230 auto will not change up the gears, but goes right through the rev range, so i guess its not limp mode?, the strange thing is this, my car got hit on the drivers side and the very same day this problem started, could there be a link here or not? i.e is there anything that could have caused it due to the hit?
but saying that, i had noticed previous to this there was a slight slipping in low gears, does low atf fluid cause slipping or not, any help would be great, thanks, the car is a e230 auto 1234D gearbox.

It's likely to be either the speed sensor on the electronic plate in the gearbox is damaged or the wiring harness/connector to the transmission control unit.

Are you sure the gearbox is locked in 1st and not 2nd?

It sounds to me like your gearbox is stuck in limp mode. Will the engine rev in Neutral or Park?

i am not too sure if it 'is' stuck in 1st or second, but yes the car will rev in park and neutral
