E220 cdi avantgarde W211. sprinter 313CDI.
Hi folks,
Wondering if anyone had any advice to servicing on my E220 CDI Avantgarde (2005) 5 speed auto. i've had the car a couple of years and always serviced with an indi, but have recently noticed that the car always comes back with 9K service interval. Just checked on an MB ESS guide and for the current status of 114000 miles, 64k by me, and currently i am showing a -500 for a B service.
The ESS guide says that i should check cluster changed to a 15.5k before next service.
my questions are.
Why has my service interval never changed before.

Should i question my indi.

what would be a reasonable £--- for a B service.

Help and advice appreciated. MFI

My old (1996) C220D had a 9k/12month service interval but the current 2001 E220CDI goes about 13k (never reached the time limit so don't know) and as I understand it the difference is due in some part to the quality of the oil. I do not think that I can tell the car what quality of oil I use so it does not vary much apart from driving conditions ie short vs long journeys.
It is about 4/5 years ago now that MB quoted me for a B service IIRC it started at £480 and rose to £630 after I told them the mileage which apparently accounted for the inclusion of a charcoal filter - which I had bought from GSF for £15 and fitted in 5 mins the week earlier, no brainer really DIY.

thanks for that, have received some more info from a friend with a garage. and come up with some useful service info.
The oil going in has always been low ash oil. the original merc dealer services show mobil 5W40 but the indi since i,ve had it has always been low ash 5W30.
also. his computer reckoned i should be nearer 18K between services and some other info for resetting the service indicators via steering wheel controls. and info for service times. as follows.
1."spanner" symbol.
2. Service time intervals A-H.
A. service time of up to 1 hour
B. service time of up to 2 hours
C. service time of up to 3 hours
D. service time of up to 4 hours
E. service time of up to 5 hours
F. service time of up to 6 hours
G. service time of up to 7 hours
H. service time of up to 8 hours
The addition of an "+" indicates that the brake pads need checking.
3. Distance remaining till next service.
There is more info about going through the steering wheel buttons to get the service menu which gives you items for servicing. ( but would have to post again when i've ascertained which controls to list)
hope this helps you, certainly given me something to play with.

..........recently noticed that the car always comes back with 9K service interval.....

That will be the default value for a minimium spec engine oil.

If a long life engine oil is used (I only use long life oil - typically MB229.5/MB229.51) this can be selected (via item 13) when the cluster is reset.
Your garage should know this, what oil spec do they use?

The meaning of the service letter is always confusing for people, when I am asked for a service quote from a dash letter I have to try to explain this!

Have a read here for an in depth look at how it all works and what it all means http://www.mercedestechstore.com/pdfs/W211_advisor/219%20HO%20FSS%20Plus%20(WFF)%2008-16-02.pdf
The service menu is reached with a slightly different method on most W211 cars though (the above PDF is dated now).

To acces service menu...

Turn ignition to position 1
Get the ouside tmep in the disply
Press dimmer button 3 times - battery voltage should now be displayed
Scroll down with arrow buttons to see service menu
Go through menus as in the PDF link above.
