W211 E320cdi elegance saloon. Gone at last
The door mirrors are creaking when folding. Is there a particular lubricant that should be used or will a silicon spray do the job ?

A PTFE 'dry lube' such as used on mountain bike gearsets is best as it won't attract so much grit 'n sh!te.

You need to get it right inside on the pivot and gear wheels

It's the wing mirror housing rubbing against the rubber seals on the inner part, I have tried silicon lube but when it dries out the creaking noise comes back again. In the end I have just got used to it, at least I know when my car is locked lol.

You can tell it's the inner seal, notice how there is no noise when there is rain, the rain is acting as the lube.

Yep, learn to live with it unfortunately.

I use the GT85 from Halfords - works well although I stopped folding in my mirrors regularly after reports of wires breaking.

I just exercise them now and again.

I had this problem with my 2010 W 212. I tried silicone, WD40, GT85 etc all to no avail.
Put the car into the MB specialist I got it from. Software upgrade. Unbelievable.
That was well over a year ago, car lives outside, been to the heat of the Med twice since then, never made a noise since

I'm surprised a software upgrade can fix that.

I've watched the mirrors as they fold and I can see what makes the noise - and spraying GT85 stopped it.

Unless the mirror doesn't fold in as far...
