W211 E280 CDI Won't change gear

I've got a W211 E Class with the 7G-Tronic gearbox and I'm having a strange problem.

After a while driving fine, the gearbox won't let me select Reverse or Park. I can only select Drive or Neutral. When in Drive it changes through the ratios fine though. I only know there's a problem when I try to go into Park or Reverse. The lever won't physically go into reverse.

If I stop the engine, I can go into park fine. When I restart I can then select all gears for a while.

I also can't change up and down the box manually when this is happening.

I've read the ECU codes and there were no fault codes stored.

Anybody seen this before?

I doubt if your code reader can read specific transmission faults. The best way to diagnose the problem is with a Star system, it will prevent guess work and prove cheaper and quicker overall.
