Wacky baccy plant inside the house!!

Lip between front tyre and rear of front bumper is hiw it is.

YES!

That's normal, both of mine have sat a little higher at the front. I had this one adjusted to take it down a bit.

Heavy diesel engines are probably (over) compensated for.

Not the same angle but you get the idea.

It is indeed the suspension height.

The front is sitting very high compared to when they were replaced.

The springs were changed (pair) when i had the snapped spring issue, this was a about half a year back. The front two shocks were replaced at the same time too.

Parts were orderd via VIN from dealer and the springs were ordered through the 'points' system to supply the right springs taking in account engine size and options etc etc.

Thinking that they just needed to be bedded in when they were fitted, im now certain this isnt the case. Its sitting too high compared to other w211's out there and what the ride height looked like from memory before they were replaced.

I started doing investigations on EPC (electronic parts catalogue) myself in the hope MB supplied me the wrong springs.

Did the points calculations myself on EPC and tallied them up to see what spring and part number I needed. Double checked the part number on my invoice -this was correct.. :o

then i thought the the actual spring was wrong. Luckily my Indy left the part number sticker on the spring so i just mangaged to rip it off - the part number was correct on on this too :o

so..all adds up then. Why is it sitting incorrectly? Trust me its not how it is supposed to sit!

anybody any ideas? Shocks? - these are correct too!

here are pics for better viewing:

Front:

Rear: sits perfect

My w211 doesnt have height adjustable suspension. Just a Sping and shock business.

Would be cool if i could stick it on STAR and adjust it.

What does the indy say (I assume he did the job)?

compared to yours mines is really bad, in the second batch of pics ive posted you can see the springs themselves.

yes so we dismantled the front shocks and springs again and started tinkering with the shocks.

These shocks have little notches circa 1 to 8 that apparently alters heights?

This made no difference what so ever. So im now truly stumped.

Is the front on struts or do they sit like on W202's. If this is the case, perhaps you can play around with the rubber pads and "nibs" on the top of the spring. I stand to be corrected...

No unfortunately not, the springs are fixed onto the shock.

If it were incorrect assembly he's unlikely to have done it on both sides, so, even though you've checked the parts it points to them being wrong somewhere.

Could there be a mod involving the removal of some kind of spacer when the newer springs/shocks are fitted -even though you've checked the part numbers?

Grasping I know, but I guess you need all the ideas you can get.

When the new shocks and springs were fitted, we took note of what 'notch' the original shock was on and basically replicated the same on the new ones.

Everything was fitted exactly the same as it came out with no bits removed.

Im really thinking even though the spring had the right part number label, whats to say that who ever stuck it on in the warehouse/gemany could have made a mistake?

Logic would say if its sitting high, it must be stiffer,(coil count is the same) therefore it might be a heavy duty/E500/ maybe a 55 Spring? Even a spring that caters for more options than i currently have.

Pano roof for example adds a lot of weight - somthing for which my 211 dont have. Using the pano roof example would add a fair few points on the tally.

I think ive got the wrong spring which has been jumbled up with the wrong part number label?
