Hi,

I have 16" Elegance W211 pre-face lift wheels fitted with almost brand new top quality winter tyres 215 55 R16 97H (was actually on Q210 hence 215 rather than 225). You can see exactly the same wheels on: 16" Mercedes Yilduz wheels in High Sheen with Standard Silver - Alloy Wheels Direct (43665)
The exact specifications are:
16" Mercedes Yilduz
Front & Rear alloy wheels: 16x7.5" ET42
Wheel part number: MER B66474220
Additional alloy part number: A2114011402

Can these be legally and safely fitted onto W211 facelift car? The typical set up for the car in question is 245 45 R17 95or99.

Typical wheels for post-facelift W211 can be seen on:
17" Mercedes 5 Twin Spoke wheels in Sterling Silver - Alloy Wheels Direct (43675)
The exact specifications of the typical setup for the car are:
Front & Rear alloy wheels: 17x8" ET38
Wheel part number: MER B66472159
Additional alloy part number: A2114013602

If the opinion that these 16" can be safely and legally fitted onto post-facelift E320CDI car, do I need to buy special RAD bolts that I used to fit them on W210 or do I fit them using the bolts that cam with the facelift W211 car?

Thanks a lot for replies.

Pre-facelift and post-facelift will be the same figment, your only issue with 16's could be brake clearance.

Thanks a lot, I believe these will physically fit as the calipers are standard ones - not AMG. How much clearance should there be for safely fitting these between the edge of the calipers and the wheels?

Is something that I am proposing so unusual that it has not been approved / tested by others?

The space between the calliper on my Brabus brakes (have I mentioned them before?) and the 19" wheel was less than a packet of Rizlas and they were fine.

With wheels, as long as the off set is similar and the radius of the wheel stays the same, there's no real issues you should encounter.

when all else fails I use

www.willtheyfit.com

put in the old wheels and new wheels, and this will help you calcultate your needed tyre size and also the wheels to see if they are stronger or weaker in offset to see how much clearance you may or may not have

Hope that helps

Thanks a lot, I run the check (see below). I suppose tyre sizing is fine as the differences are not to great and comparable with tyre size reduction due to wear from 8mm to 1.6mm (well I always replaces at 3-4mm and ctually in this case it also works in my favour size-wise).
I am not sure about 4mm difference in offset though, is it OK?

Results of the check:
Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 2.3mm further away from the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 10.4mm less than before.

..............................Current.....Proposed
Diameter..................652.3mm.....642.9mm
Circumference...........2049.3mm...2019.7mm
Poke.......................63.6mm.......53.3mm
Inset......................139.6mm......137.3mm
Speedo error.............0%.............1.46%
Reading at 30mph .....30mph ........30.44mph
Reading at 60mph .....60mph ........60.88mph
Ride height gain .......0mm ..........-4.7mm
Arch gap loss ..........0mm...........-4.7mm
