I have my E55 converted to LPG, it runs very well, but in spite of having two vapourisers, if I really go for it, it does kick back to petrol. I suspect the limitation is flow rate further back, but I'm not an engineer so thats guessing.
That said, I can go plenty fast enough for day to day driving on LPG. I can't recall the ECU make, but it has been problem free for over 30,000 miles now.
I agree that the quality of the key components is one key issue and the quality of the install the other. If they are right, you should have a problem free system.
I have run 3 cars with big turbos on LPG, two Saabs, one highly tuned and one V6 bi-turbo Audi without any issues. In the past we started with an old Range rover and we currently have a V6 golf, ML430, E55 and my Sabb 9000 all running gas.
The 9000 is so well setup it will pull to the redline on Gas and there really is no detectable loss of performance, so I think finding someone who really knows what they are doing for install and setup is what nails it. A lot of installers load a standard ECU map for whatever the make/model of car is and that's your lot because they don't know how to tune fuelling irrespective of whether it's gas or petrol.
If you have a good installer/tuner lined up, I would definitely go for it much as it may be frowned upon.
Good luck!
