Hi I have a creak on o/s front wheel when turning slow to park, i think it may be a broken spring at the top but cannot see anything, Questions any clues what it may be ? before i get it checked out, if it is front spring will fitting that one be ok or should i have to get both sides fitted (ouch) any recommendations mb or ecp and what brand best ? just trying to find out before getting chatted into something i don't need ? also front discs and pads are low but should last me about another 8 months, should i get these changed at the same time if they have to take them off to do springs i don't know if they do ? thanks.

Hi,

I have a 2006 E320 CDI saloon. I have a creak at the nearside front that first manifested itself under heavy braking but then does as yours does and creaks when turning at low speeds, i.e. when parking.

One day it drove me to distraction that much that I took it into a local independent. After much pulling and prodding under the car, He told me that it needed a castor bush and an anti roll bar end bush. The car does clunk slightly from the front on uneven roads, it has the firmer avantgarde suspension setup so I'm guessing this is the castor bush and the slow speed creaking is from the anti roll bar bush.

After I was given a price to sort each issue out, around £130 -£150 a go I am still putting up with the creaks and clunks.

The creak seems to be better on some days than others i.e. if it is warm and dry or if it is cold and damp.

Mine also needs a rear spring as the bottom 2" has broken off. It is recommended that you change in pairs. You will need a telescopic spring compressor (for the rears at least- think for the fronts too). The sping condition can be easily checked by yourself by taking the wheel off. I got a price from MB dealership which was only a fiver more than buying Sachs units from a well known parts supplier. The spring will have 2 or 3 coloured stripes which denote spring length and firmness. The spring from MB are probably Sachs too but at least you know that they are right for your car.

Again discs and pads get a price from the dealership, you may be surprised. Mine had not long been serviced and the pads are clearly branded Pagid which I believe to be an OEM part.

Good luck :-)

Mine creaked a few years back dealer stripped front suspension & found nothing wrong, was told it was the characteristics of the car:crazy: took it to another dealer who greased a few things(no idea what) but was still the same, 2 days later it stopped & haven't heard it since, till this day i have no idea what was causing it:confused: its not as if it was a quiet noise it was loud enough.

Creak during turning wheel of just driving at constant radius? Does it creaks if turning wheels at stop (try slowly full lock to lock, then small dithering in different positions)? Mine was upper ball joints, often also lower ball joints are noisy if worn.

I just sorted Nasty knocking on my w211 by replacing the upper ball joints. Man they were mashed !!!

It was balljoints on mine - lower, I think.

Thanks for the replies, just checked mot its in a couple of weeks so will get it checked in the week, i will let you know what happened, thanks.

Well took for mot today, he could not find anything wrong, i even told him what was making a slight creaking noise when parking but he could find nothing, Hummmm, having discs and pads done in a couple of weeks by MB tec see if he can find anything.

Very likely to be a ball joint.

An MOT is a minimal safety check.

its been looked at today told its a common problem a dry bush nothing to worry about just a noise to put up with, or get fixed when your feed up with noise. any clues about price anyone.

I wouldn't believe that for a second.

Get it fixed as it could be a worn ball joint. When they snap the result could cause a severe accident.

Thanks Black 55 i will take your advice and get a second opinion better safe than sorry, i will report back, thanks.

Thanks Black 55 you were right worn ball joint, thanks again.
