Good afternoon all,

Looking for some advice about servicing the gearbox in my beloved E320CDI (W211) with a full flush. Could someone suggest me a good reliable independent garage in or around Cambridge whom i could trust please?
Spoke to a gearbox specialist company with over 40 years experience and the chap in the office told me these boxes sealed for life and shouldn`t be touched ever. Now i know it`s nowhere near the truth after reading the gurus advice on the forum here.

There is a slight problem with the gearbox which has been there in the last 6 years of my ownership but it really bothers me as the car is now almost perfect despite the fact it`s 16 year old :) almost in adulthood. When i start the car first thing and approach a red light or roundabout so i lift my foot off the accelerator to use the engine break to slow the vehicle, lowering the gears and when it gets to 1st or 2nd gear (not 100% sure which) the car shunts, it feels like when you jump off the clutch in a manual. As soon as the temperature reaches a certain point this problem disappears and i can hardly feel any gear changes.

It has been plugged on to a star diagnostic machine 2 weeks ago and no codes whatsoever.

Could someone help me please?

Not used them myself, but my garage recommended them:

hi KillerHertz, thanks for your reply.
They told me these boxes sealed for life :)

Oh :(

My CLS63 AMG used to be like that when cold - they all do apparently.
Unless its getting worse, I wouldnt worry about it, a full Gearbox service can be £££

Not sure what gearbox you have in your car, but the 7gtronic+ box in my C Class does exactly the same from cold and has done since I bought it. I understand this may just be a characteristic of that transmission. I have found if you set it to sport rather than e, then the jolt as it changes down disappears.

7g tiptronic not plus. I will try putting it into s and see if it helps. Many thanks for your suggestion!!!

No, left it as they were all like that.

The more torque, the more likely you get the issue I guess :)

that is crazy! They all were like that, huh? i`m a little worried that it eventually will cause more damage to the gearbox but if you were happy with that little problem on your AMG i shouldn`t worry :) But i still on the case to get it serviced, it won`t hurt (hopefully). If someone trustworthy comes in your mind please don`t hesitate to let me know :)

Thanks W1ghty! I`ve dealt with Alex in the past, nice chap....
Have you ever dealt with Welvyn Merx? They are `only` an hour away from me but never heard of them and never came up on my google search hence my question :)

They are meant to be sealed for life but they still have service intervals and you have to change it regularly

Well done buddy , MB specialists are always the go to places for work like this .
Let us know how you get on .
will report back when it`s all done i promise, watch this space. many thanks for your help (and everyone) i really appreciate it.

While i got you... :) any suggestion where to get the drifting sorted please? Pulls to the left and no it`s not the road crown and yes i know all cars pull to the left :)

I took my car to Wheels in Motion in St Neots as suggested here they are brilliant. Well, a bloke took the car out for a spin but never went over 30mph, checked tyre pressures then said it`s okay i shouldn`t worry about it. ~£38 this cost me :D:D:D:D::D:D

The Blackboots company is located in Chesham but it`s a fair long trip there so just wondered if you or anyone know someone reliable anywhere nearer maybe? I don`t mind to travel to get it done correctly just you know worth asking.

I don’t know , Merc camber issues are a well known thing , some problems are rectified by having adjustable camber bolts fitted (where they aren’t already) .
Maybe wait and ask Phil at Welwyn Merx who he recommends when you get there ?
