2004 E320cdi Estate S211
As a newbie on the forum i don't want to appear stupid but can someone tell me if i have a W or S211.
The car is a 2004 E320 straight 6 diesel 3222cc Avantgarde Estate.

On a seperate note -
What should the ideal engine temprature be after about 10 miles of normal driving?
Mine is showing on the dash as the block under the 80 mark which i assume is 60.
I have only had it a week now and it comes with the Tier 1 Merc warranty.
Do you think i could get the thermostat inspected or replaced?
If not how much would it cost to be fitted etc at main dealer?

W- Saloon
S - Estate

All diesels struggle in this weather so I wouldnt be too worried. If it continues when the weather is warmer then it may be worth changing the stat.

As an estate it's an S211, though the VIN will begin with W.

Yes i have a couple of photo's but i am not sure how to post them on the site.
I just tried but it wanted the URL of my images, i only have them on my pc.
Is there a shortcut?

Yes it really is in excellent condition. I got it via mercedes direct used cars. Done a straight swap for my Rav 4 T180.
Will be using it to Tow my 7.5 Meter caravan down to spain this summer. Off to Wales in March though for a dry run! It pulls like a train and has got 80K genuine miles with full MB Main dealer history so i am hoping it will last me a few years!

To answer your question re the engine temperature, sounds like your has gone the way of many others! Should be 85-90 ish minimum when fully up to temperature but in your vehicle (mine is identical) in cold weather it will take at least 10 miles to get there.

It is not a huge job but worth doing as a lower operating temperature will crimp your mpg badly. On a long run (i.e 100+ motorway miles) should get around 38-42mpg at errrr... normal speed.... but obviously depending on weight of right foot etc

If after a long run your thermostat is still at 60-65C it is duff. So if you have a warranty, go for it.

Great looking S211! :) Love that colour and the condition looks superb!

Are they 17" wheels? I ask 'cos yours doesn't look under wheeled like mine used to when it had 16s...

You can blank the Radiator to help get some temperature earlier and see if it eats any higher. Cardboard and racer tape works wonders :)

Nice one...
Being a first time Merc owner i did wonder what made a W an S!!
Thanks

Nice looking car Harley. Thanks to everyone else for their input. My W211 sits exactly at 60C once warmed up and so I'll give the garage where I bought it from to see if they can arrange a new thermostat. that should lift my MPG up a bit which will be nice.

Hello

Nice looking estate, I'm biased but think the estates just look better, and huge in the back :)

Mines used to carry and pull all sorts of things.

best car for mpg towing I have owned yet with 26 - 28mpg towing this. Also the self leveling rear means it never looks wrong no matter what you put in it...

I have a brabus D6 box fitted after owning the car for around 6 months. Mines a one owner (my dad) car and now on 132K miles :) so you have some miles to go in yours..

Yes it does look nice and level.
I have a Lunar Lexon SI which is 7.5m long. I don't have self levelling rear suspension or at least there is not buttons in the car to adjust it etc!
Going to be away in March with it so might put on another picture of it.
Thanks for the photo though, have to agree the state looks better than the saloon in my opinion.

I'm pretty certain that all S211's have self adjusting rear 'air' suspension.

Std on the rear of S211's

No buttons it just does it :)
