My 2003 E220 CDi has a problem with the electronic stowage compartment in the centre console. It appears to have stopped working (although it can be opened/closed manually) and there is a continuous whirring sound of the motor whilst the car is running.

How can I either get it working again or disconnect JUST the motor (to stop the annoying whirring sound).

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks.

hi,open the ash tray and pull up the gear lever cover plate with your fingers from the front,it can then be removed by moving it backwards.lift up ther cover plate so you have access to the wires underneath (w/s switch, parking sensors etc) and disconected these, next twist the black plastic locking nut half/3/4 off a turn under the gear lever and pull the whole unit off.there are now 2 torx screws, cant remember what size they are, undo these.these hold the stowage conpartment/cd changer in.slide out the unit carefully, the wires to the motor are not very long, you may have to disconect then while holding the unit in your other hand.

Shakeapaw,

Many thanks for your suggestion. I managed to remove the unit and discovered that the part which rotates as part of the motor was broken. I.e. I will need a new motor. My local MB suggested approx. £84 + VAT for the complete unit excluding the face cover. I think I can live without a motorized unit for the moment. It works fine if I manually open & close it.

Once again many thanks.

Irfan
