As always im trying to calm my busy mind today, but even for me this issue is too pressing.
I have a W212 / E class / bluetec/ 2011 / saloon

It has an Audio 20 Sat Nav depicted below.

The dealer in Ashford asked for 1400.00 to fit it as apparently the screen pictured here was / is faulty.

I deduced the code and asked them to just sell me the Unit / not installation, long story, I have the new screen. The same issue is apparent, which is -

the stereo comes on, i can only switch between station using the arrows on the headunit.
No display comes on, and no ' talking' between the steering wheel controls and the screen.
its very peculiar, no sat nav comes on, literally nothing just blank screen.
Has mercedes given me incorrect advice, anyone know?

why is this important?

I volunteer for a Hospice doing community pick ups for day therapy, and also lend this car to another person to share as she wishes to collect people and pick them up. She needs the sat nav more than me,.. i know its a long shot and no one will probably know this odd and very complex issue, i just thought i would try, as i want her to be able to use the car and sat nav
this is the model number - Mercedes-Benz E Class S212 2009 To 2013 Sat Nav Display Screen A2129010400

I did wonder in the beginning if it was fuse related, but mercedes must of check this.....?

they actually had this car on 3 separate occasions, which is another story, as they said they was ' busy ' and i kept going back to collect it..

MB dealers are notoriously bad at diagnosing stereo faults, and every week we get cars with similar story to you.

Your unit is not talking to the car's network properly. It is possible its the display dumping on the audio control network (Telematics CANbus) but as the Steering wheel controls are not working the main unit (the one with CD slot) is not talking on the cars main body network. But diagnosis is needed by us for us to be able to be sure.

We can diagnose and sort at less than the MB dealer, but not until people are allowed to drive around again !

Forget MB Ashford, they're useless, I had to show them how to access the Engineering menu in my Comand system! Richard is about 2 hours drive from you, about a mile from J3 M3, not really an option ATM. If you know a decent In Car Entertainment outfit near you that is still open, try phoning to see if they're competant with MB Comand system, with the info Richard's given above. Or, quick trip to Halfords/online and buy a cheap satnav to tide you over until life returns to some form of normality.

i am still perplexed at the misinformation from them, even one mechanic, no one was rude etc,..... but nevertheless it left me with little faith in them

Thanks Sarah - got the 12 weeks prisoner No. 10 letter from our surgery this morning as I'm "at risk of severe infection", so that's the next 3 months mullered. Luckily wife is not in the same category and can drive, so the load falls on her for a while, collecting medications, groceries etc., be interesting if the car needs fuel, she's never fuelled the car in the 8 years we've owned this one! As for getting petrol for the lawn mower (which we'll soon need), even more amusing!

Friend yesterday tried to order a Tesco home delivery - first delivery or click and collect slot available was end of April!!

im sorry to hear this, i personally think people ( some ) are being selfish, my sister was getting home delivery and she has a car, i think everyone who has cars, and can get to the supermarkets should not get home delivery , this would free up slots for those that need it more, its very selfish isnt it...

stay home and stay safe, lets hope and pray this covid19 dissipates, but sadly i cant see it as the trajectory isnt looking good.... my heart aches for the old and vulnerable in London as the tsunami is coming and hitting london awfully hard : (
