Front spring on one of our low mileage W212 E250 Sport has broke.

No sign of any corrosion on the spring, just seems to have snapped.

I priced up 2 new springs (purchase only) at main dealer which at £180 seems a bit high.

See some springs on ebay (Kilen) for about £50 but worried they may not be exactly same (model has pan. roof) and offer same ride height.

Anyone any advice on where to buy springs or any other general advice?

Sports springs do cost more, main dealer supplied springs will give you the correct ride height and loading.

Euro car parts can supply Sachs springs who supply Mercedes but may not be the correct ride height.

Yes, main dealer I think it is, got them down to £160 for the springs and shims now.

Anyone recommend a suitable low cost spring compressor?

My local garage fitted my snapped front spring for £35

Would love to have a local garage we would trust to do such things but sadly wouldn't trust them to fit a wiper blade properly.

Maybe my choice of the words "low cost" were a bad one. :)

Looked at a standard £20 Macpherson "heavy duty" one but decided against this, just looks too flimsy.
Ordered a £70 tool from Wonderman Tools who we have bought tools from before and found to be good.

If you have the room then this one from MachineMart for £120 is really nice to use...

Strangely I looked at that but decided for the limited use we would put it to it would sit idle too much.
Does look like excellent value for money though.

Two front springs replaced today, not too difficult a job.
Bought a spring compressor like the link in one of the previous posts which did the job nicely.

Did the front discs and pads at the same time, the discs were more or less falling apart, terrible condition for a 2010 car with such low mileage.
Meant they were a right nuisance to get them off due to all the corrosion and pieces falling off.
