W212 E63 exhaust re-chrome

hi all,

quick question regarding my W212 E63's exhaust. I want to get them re-chromed as the finish has come off. I've polished them with cleaner but does nothing as the chrome is no longer there so they look black.

I was wondering if my exhaust tips are bolted on or welded? reason for asking being that my cla has exhaust tips that are bolted on, was wondering if these were the same?

On the pre facelift I think they are part of the back box but are you sure the chrome has come off and that they are not just black from use?

If you have a search there was a thread about cleaning these tips and I can tell you it can take a bit of elbow grease to do!

Thanks guys, I put it onto a ramp over the weekend and they are attached to the system so they'll need to be cut off. thanks

Are you sure the chrome has gone as I've never heard this on such a new Mercedes and as I said earlier they can get caked in burnt on deposits which with a lot of elbow grease and metal polish etc will come off

Yeah I'm pretty sure. I've spent countless hours trying to clean them. I've used autosol and other products but no luck. You can feel where the chrome actually is compared to where isn't. But might give it one more try before taking them off

I would as it's a replacement of two back box's to replace; not cheap!

You sure there chrome and not polished stainless steel? Try in an area under the tip with some 3m scotch bright or emery cloth to see if that removes the crud.
