W218 CLS 350......incoming! (boredom warning attached as well as pics)

Thank you for all the kind comments. It was a long but enjoyable drive home after collecting it yesterday. To say I am pleased is an understatement!

It performed flawlessly on the 220 miles journey home, average speed of 50mph :( due to sheer volume of traffic and poor timings of hitting peak traffic times.

It took over 4 hours in total and averaged 50.5mpg!!!

Today will mostly be spent trying to work out the plethora of settings and find out if it has any hidden tricks!

Very nice car indeed.

Lots of toys to play with and looks like you have the squishy soft headrests too. Certainly a splendid and comfortable place to be whilst you sit listening to the clatter of the engine! ;):D

I do indeed have the squishy headrests! TBH I thought they felt a little odd at first, almost like a pillow. I take it this is actually a feature?

Happy new car,.

Is is real leather or genuine Mercedes fake leather ? :D

According to the datacard, it has the 'exclusive leather package'. It certainly looks like leather, feels like leather, so I am going to say it is indeed leather! :)

Very nice, great colour combination, same as my S-Class. Even if it is a OIL BURNER :wallbash:  Rear Air Con, very rare :)

Lovely looking car, I've always liked the W218 and with a really high spec it's perfect. Enjoy

So apart from driving it, I have carried out some minor changes which I felt were letting the car down. Firstly a change of wheel centre caps, as true to form the OEM ones were corroded and looked a little unsightly, unlike my shiny new £10 eBay ones! ;)

Then it was a little preventative maintenance of greasing the locks prior to putting in a 'blank'.
IMG_2374.jpeg IMG_2376.jpeg
Then to remove the free advertising for the garage, sticker in the rear windscreen and across the bottom of the number plates, as well as a debadge!
IMG_2370.jpeg IMG_2382.jpeg

Treated it to a cargo net, an umbrella and a collapsible crate...all MB of course! ;)

Apart from it needing a good wash and a potential detail, I cannot fault the car.

One thing I didn't notice until today, that it does not have the stop/start function, nor the adblue! :)

Nice find Abb, lovely spec. Hopefully I'll see it cruising about town.
No more excuses for missing any of Andy's meets. It will be hard to convince us that all 3 of your Merc's are out of action.

You do know you can only run the black Mercedes centre caps if you're running black tyres.....

I had a CLS back in the day, but I can't remember what type 'cos I took the badges off.....

Thought I would continue on here rather than start a new thread. Have continued to make some minor changes, yes they wont be to everyones taste, to I like them :)

Decided to fit a rear diffuser from a '63' version. First of all removal of the existing diffuser...

Side by side.....

All fitted....

All that remains is to change the exhaust tips to something that fills the gaps better....possibly some AMG tips ;)

One of the things the car was not fitted with, was a reverse camera, so I set about a retrofit. Using OEM camera, wiring loom, boot trim etc, I decided to have a go at this (mainly due to being let down by the local company who were going to install it for me).

Apart from the deconstructing that was required to route the cables from the rear fuse/SAM unit to the COMAND unit, it was quite a straight forward process, with one exception. This was the removal of part of the dashboard trim, was a bit tricky having to push a 3mm rod up through a purpose made opening on the dash to release a clip, which you could not see nor knew what it felt like!

Once this was released, you are free to put that bit of trim wherever you wish not necessarily on the lawn :D

IMG-2663.jpg

Now this was out of the way, removed the COMAND unit, and plugged the video feed into the back (once I had sussed how to remove one side of the double green plug and plug the video lead into the spare way)
IMG-2664.jpg

Put it all together and voila this is what the screen shows....

Gutted, I packed in and left it for another day!

Some fault finding followed the following day and it was found the location plugged into at the fuse panel, had no live feed! This was promptly resolved having re routed the cable into a different fuse location.

This time it really was voila....

So now I have one fully functioning OEM reverse camera! Camera kit & tech support supplied by Comandonline :)

Whilst I was on with the installation, my newly ordered OEM bootliner arrived, and I also found I have an ultra rare option on the CLS coupe....split fold rear seats!

While it was there, the guy was kind enough to fit the rear boot lip spoiler I had purchased. Fitted using 3M tape.

From a different angle..

Just need the tailpipes to be fitted (yes I have bought some OEM CLS 63 ones) and that is it for now! :)

Future possible mods:

Window tints (lightest possible) Only considering this, due to the wrap guy mentioning it to protect the leather from the rays.
Change of wheels
Wheels Spacers

Treated it to another trinket inside. Complete with part numbers incase it helps!

I know I could of used the hook pictured on the right hand side for the odd occasion I need to hang a coat/jacket up, but that would be logic :D

Loving it. Keep it up.

2 things
I thought that could not like/live with a black CLS - but you may just have converted me!
Much respect that you take off and reattach trim - I am always afraid to snap clips/etc

That rear end treatment of lip spoiler and de-chromed boot strip plus modified diffuser treatment, along with de-badge, is very effective. Convinced the new exhaust tips will just add to the already superb look.
