W218 CLS 350......incoming! (boredom warning attached as well as pics)

Still in need of a detail and the wheels to be refurbed and fitted. Almost there! :)

All you need is an AMG badge now Abb and you're there ;-)

Its on order together with the black series one! Wouldn't want to do half a job now would I? ;)

Just to keep this thread updated as my ownership continues. As some already have seen on my other posts, the new wheels have been fitted...
Vossen VFS-2 (refurbed in anthracite after a few dramas ;))
For those that are interested in the set up:

Vossen: OEM:

Rears
20 x 10.5j 19 x 9.5j
ET 42 ET 48
305/25/20 285/30/19

Fronts
20 x 9j 19 x 8.5j
ET 32 ET 34.5
255/30/20 255/35/19

Having driven it a hundred or so miles since the new wheels were fitted, can't say I have noticed a difference in ride. Have in aesthetics though!

In an attempt to try and take a few decent shots :D

So it went in for an A service (I couldn't make it and the indies wife kindly collected it for me) and the indie actually sent me a message to tell me what a nice example it is (he sees a fair few of every model like most decent places, so was reassuring to hear).

Unfortunately, that is where it ended after he had finished the service. Not the end of the world, but was surprised that both rear springs were snapped, (but due to where the break was, it was sat in the cup or words to that effect it is not surprisingly it has been overlooked) although I know coil springs are not MBs strongest point.
Slight play in one of the front wheel bearings.
Minor oil leak from breather pipe (if that is the correct terminology) the common seal issue on this engine.

Have already ordered a set of bearings (SKF) and will replace the pair. Decided to up rate the springs to H&R (albeit they come with a 25mm drop) and have also ordered these.
Not sure how it will work out on the combo of 20" wheels and a slight drop. If I decide it is too much to live with (if indeed I find it harsh to begin with), it will either be back on 19's OEM with the drop, or up to normal height and keep the 20's! Will cross that bridge if/when I come to it.
Re the oil leak, I will be contacting the indie on Monday morn and make further enqs, as he was a bit rushed when he dropped the car off (20:20hrs), so didn't want to hold him up. Am getting conflicting info regarding these seals. Is it or pipe with a seal on the end, or the actual pipe unit assembly aswell, as some of these have another circular piece on the end of the pipe which contains some sort of diaphram which some say need doing also. The confusion on my part trying to understand is which ones have both the seals and this other part or just the seal a the end of the pipe.

I am not referring to the 'Y' section of pipe which contains another seal. My understanding is that this is a common fault on this engine (OM642) leading to bigger more expensive issues if not caught in time because of the oil dripping onto the components below.

Good to see the alloys now sorted.

Abb - my first thoughts with them fitted.....too much gap. The proposed 25mm drop should do the trick, Personally, not a big fan of slammed but suspect your baby will just right..............already looks special :thumb:

Exhaust and wheels look great
I hope they will loosen off all the suspension bushes to let them settle to the reduced height.

Finally got round do giving it a detail (that should read attempt detail!). No before pics (my bad) but the car wasn't to dirty to be honest and although I am in no way professing to be some sort of pro detailer, I am more than happy with the outcome.
Took me a few days and unfortunately had to do it outside! So this was my attempt and method used:
Rinse using pressure washer
Wash using the 2B method of washing (as always) lambswool mitt and megs gold class shampoo
Rinse using DI Vessel & hose
Clayed using a G3 Farcela mitt and soapy water
Rinsed again using DI vessel
Left it to dry
Using a kestrel DA Pro 6 applied meguiars 105 cutting compound (one panel at a time)
Wiped off residue using MF cloth
Using DA applied meguiars 205 polish (one panel at a time)
Repeated the above three steps over a 2 day period until car was complete
Applied meguiars liquid wax by hand using applicator sponge
Buffed by hand using Kent MF towel

Once this was done (including all door/bonnet/boot shuts) cleaned all glass but still have the interior to do!

Anyway, heres some pics, as we do like pics! :D

Love the Colour combo, and the wheels are Superb! Lovely:rock:

Believe it or not Gav, there is at least 6mm on those tyres! I know the pics don't look like that though for some reason :dk:
