I am about the purchase a tow bar and vehicle specific electrics from rameder.eu for my 2004 S350. None of the UK suppliers have the dedicated electrics, and this place has it at the same price as the bypass kits.

They cannot confirm if it will fit my right hand drive car. The tow bar will but they don't know about the electrics. Can anyone see any reason why the tow bar electrics would be different for the LHD kit?

Also do you think it will really need coding in for it to work?

I can't see it would make any difference LHD or RHD. What price are you getting it at? If I could have found a dedicated electrics kit for the same price as a bypass relay I'd have probably gone for it myself etc.

Not a W220 admittedly but, I bought a tow bar and dedicated electronics pack for my C219 CLS from Rameder last year.

To be honest it hadn't even dawned on me that the electronics might be 'handed' - thankfully it wasn't, but you will definitely need to use Star to tell the gateway that the extra unit is connected to the bus. From what I can tell it uses dedicated messages and doesn't simply rely on picking up broadcast messages.

As an aside I was very satisfied with the service and speed of delivery from Rameder - especially after I had been told by every towbar company in the UK that I couldn't use a CLS for towing...

The only thing can think of is the foglight being on the other side.

Would that effect the towbar electrics?

The tow bar is in the middle, won't make a scrap of difference if it's off a lhd, wiring
will be the same pin out too.

Thanks for the advice folks.

Zulu how much did you pay to have the electrics coded on Star?

Er... I didn't...I've got my own Star, but in all honesty it took less than ten minutes and that included figuring out where in the menus to find the appropriate setting.

I'm unsure whether the M-B main dealers are equipped with calculators that feature a decimal point button, so you may end up paying for an hour's labour.
