Hi All!
I am new to MBClub, and am really excited to be here! I purchased my dream car at the end of last year - a 2004 S65 AMG, and have bored my friends and family to death with it now, so thought I'd join a community where talking about Merc's will never get yawned at!
I researched the pro's and con's of buying an older Mercedes V12, and in the end decided to take the plunge. The newer S65's are out of my price range, and to be honest I don't think I deserve one yet. I have loved the S Class since I was lucky enough to drive a W220 S500L at the tender age of 19. My uncle had one, and it was in my view frickin awesome. I have a company car which I use day to day, so this is purely for the weekend!
I have had a few issues with it so far, even though I have only owned it for a few months. After taking a long train journey, and picking it up from the dealer, I was driving down the motorway and the car completely shut down. I took it back the next day (after finishing my journey in limp mode which is not fun), and it turned out to be one of the coil packs. The dealer replaced it a few days later (at great expense), and I picked it up again.
A week or two after that, I accelerated hard and the car again shut down. I took it to a local independent 'expert', who said they don't know what's wrong, and they recommend I take it to a main dealer. I think perhaps without wanting to sound arrogant they were a little out of their depth. I then decided to try another local 'AMG expert' in Battersea, and after 15 minutes of the mechanics taking photos of it (I can't blame them), they told me they believe the issue to be the other coil pack. My heart sunk, as I knew the cost involved! Luckily, I phoned the dealer who I purchased it through (bearing in mind they didn't sell it with a warranty) and they agreed to split the cost 50/50, and fit the part free of charge.
Besides one or 2 other little hiccups (including an oil leak), it now seems fine (touch loads of wood).
The power of this thing is immense. In some ways, it's too powerful. It takes time to master taking off at speed, as too much throttle results in the car sitting where it is, in a cloud of tyre smoke. It's in it's element when on the motor ways or on a dual carriage way. I am rather scared of it still, which perhaps is a good thing. I'm thinking of taking it to Santa Pod this summer, to test it's potential properly (and legally).
So that's me. A proud and happy owner of a 2004 S65.![Big Grin :D :D](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f600.png)
