Or any information on where best to get one.

The situation is that I have been offered £700 by the roadside company who caused the damage. MB quoted 2.5k to fix it. I'm thinking to get a second hand one and refresh it.

Any ideas?

If the company damaged it , the company should pay for a new one , whether it is 25p or £2.5k ...

Thats like me smashing your 50 inch telly and saying 'Ok i broke it , but i'm only buying you a 32 inch one in return '

Get them to sort it properly , it isn't down to you to sort it ...

Thanks for the response Howard.

Basically, it's been going on for a while. The bumper is completely bent so it needs a new part which is over a grand alone. They came to take a look at the damage and said it would cost them £700 to fix it, take it or leave it.

They gave me the details for an ombudsman to take it up with if I was unhappy. I was thinking rather than go through the hassle, just get a second hand part and fix it.

You think I should go through the ombudsman? Does anyone have any experience of this?

Whatever the detail, it won't cost 2.5k to fix a rear bumper on a 500e....the part alone is less than 800 quid brand new ! If there is no damage to car/chassis, then it's only gonna cost parts + labour to replace rear bumper. Well under £1k.

Why not claim it through insurance ? That's what it's there for....

I have a £500 excess plus zero no claims as this is my first car.

I'll get in touch with MB for a breakdown. If the part is under £800 perhaps I'll take the cash and try to fit it myself!

if they say it would cost £700 to fix, then give the car to them and get them to fix it. if its not done to satisfaction dont accept it back. its up to them to sort it.
