Each week I wait for my son's swimming class to end and so watch music DVDs on comand. Out of curiosity how long could you watch a DVD before the battery suffers?

This is a total stab in the dark here - but doesn't the 211 model have two batteries - one for the engine etc and another for electrical accessories?

Not sure if you could use the COMAND system etc and leave the other battery charged in order to start the engine/recharge the system?

Working on an assumption that the player takes about 24 watts of power. That equates to 2 amps at 12 volts.
Again, assuming your battery is approx 60amp/hr and its in peak condition...........then........
60 divided by 2 (amps) gives you 30 hours of use before the battery is dead.
So...........
To only drain a tenth of the battery capacity, you can use the DVD player for 3 hours.
To be used only as a guide.............
Adjust the figures for actual power usage and battery details..............

The ICE connected to the DVD player in my coupe can flatten my battery in about 15mins, has to be quite, er, LOUD though for that to happen. :D

Yes well, we dont all have 5K systems wired up with cooker cable and needing their own dedicated alternator.

The pre-face lift W211 has two batteries but the small one is just a backup battery for SBC brakes.

The player, display and audio amp would not consume that much power but the car would have a lot of related (and unrelated) control units up and running while playing DVD and the power consumption is a lot higher than some portable standalone player would have.

My W221 does have a separate battery for the engine and other functions and I've seen my Comand asking to "switch on the engine or it powers down" perhaps after 30 minutes. Don't know how much juice was in the battery before and after though.

You have a system which will worn you when the battery gets down. It will give you a display on the cluster "electrical consumers switched off"

On the S-Class it tells you to start the Engine or it will switch off the Comand.

My 2005 W211 would last for about 30-45 mins with a fully charged battery before the electrical consumer message would come up.

After about 30min COMAND will tell you to start the engine within 3min or it will switch itself off
