What are the best tyres

Perhaps, like me, the OP does not take his car to track days, and prefers comfort, economy, high-mileage, and low-noise, to lateral G?

I have no issue with sporty tyres, but we need to accept this it is good for some, while others may have other preferences?

I completely accept and agree we all require different things, I was just pointing out when comparing the PS3 to the F1 (which has been done on track) the F1 generally depending on size fitment/vehicle will perform better, does that make it the best, who know's. .

I've just gone for 4 Syron Race 1 tyres, very very good and very very quiet...... and also nicely priced.....

Syron High Performance Tyres

I've always found Tyretraders cheaper than other online retailers too.

Oooohhhhh!

Gona have to disagree with ya there Sav! :p

Michelin Supersports all day long!

However they tend to cater mostly for performance cars running 19" wheels or larger so if ya running on Castors then your choice runs level pegging with Michelin PS3 IMHO.

:D

Good old Michelin, always the dearest, never the best!

What other tyre's have you had, and how do they compare to them?

Tyretrader's do rate Syron. .

In the 2012 Auto Bild 50 tyre test the Syron's took 10m longer than the Eagle f1's to stop in the wet!

Ihave hangkong tyres now , im sure there not right for a mercedes but could be wrong

SavMan and G.P.

The links to Tyre tests that rave about the Goodyear Eagle F1 (although an ACE Tyre) do not include the SuperSport as it's in a different league and is pricey but not that expensive.

That same website has a dedicated page to the Michelin Supersport which makes good reading should you choose to?

Michelin Pilot Performance from track to street | the online tyre guide

OP asked for the BEST Tyre and in the Dry and longevity in this case the Supersports rule.

Wet weather grip might be a fraction behind the F1 but at this level of grip you'll never be anywhere near.

:D

Tire reviews from Joe Public (as per the links) who mostly are not qualified enough to give subjective results, do not compare to professional Journo/Driver Tire Testers who state otherwise.

My S211 E220 estate came with Michelin Premacys from new. The rears lasted for 31,000 miles and the fronts for 48k. The car has now done 62,000 and there is plenty of tread left, front and rear. Car rides and handles well. With that mileage I wouldn't buy anything else.
From memory, back in the days when I had company cars, mostly Omega, 5 Series, A6/100 and E Class the lease company always wanted to fit Michelin Primacy, presumably because they gave the most miles per £.
I always found them fine although a BMW 525d Auto supplied with Contis gave 10% better fuel economy than the Michelin Primacys that susequently replaced them.....so on that basis if you're paying for both fuel and tyres the Contis are probably a better option.

Fair enough and I agree we are splitting hairs.

Of course there is the widely discussed "professional journalist" who at a launch of the then new M5 waxed lyrically after jumping out only to be told by the guy from BMW that the car he had just driven and thought was the M5 was the 535 which was brought so that they could compare and would he now like to drive the M5!

Must av been 'Brown Nosin' BMW same as he does for Goodyear for the usual Goodybag handout for a favorable review!

Michelin don't do Goodybags!

Goodyear f1 asymmetric 2 is the best all round tyre. Stay away from kuhmo there terrible in the wet.

Kumho, rubbish in the wet? Nonsense.

i must admit i do like the Dunlop SP Sport Range. They provide a decent amount of grip and wear as well and adequate rim protection.

I never buy new and usually go onto Ebay and do a search for sizes and brands within the EU. There is a large selection of near new tyres (5-6mm tread, and new is 8mm) available and this is not puncture repaired kind. A decent premium brand will cost £70-90 each and are usually sold in pairs so its worth looking over a period of a few weeks to get a full set...

consistency of perform ance is nice, the car not skittering into the nearest ditch when it rains is my priority. Eagle F1 are good. If you like a twitchy steering go for extra load.
