What do to? (Car purchase hassles)

They also promised a full tank of fuel, hope they’ve remembered that! :)
Be aware they will put in the cheapest crappiest supermarket fuel they can find. Not sure it's such a bad thing on the N/A however?

i am saying it because am I stubborn cow and I would scream and stamp my feet until the cows came home if I realy wanted something:D:p:oops:o_O:mad::)
I'm married to someone like that.

Well good for you, you have stuck it out despite lots of contrary views of others who would not have had your patience or belief that the car would be sorted properly. I really hope the car is what you have been hoping for and all the problems securing it will fade into the background after you get it home. If you ultimately avoid paying the £500 they will fade even quicker , in either case enjoy it!

So to sum up:

They have lied to you from the start, they have been evasive when you have tried to find out what was happening and have been very poor at keeping you informed all along.

They have then had a fault appear on the car whilst it was still in their ownership and to fix that fault to enable the car to pass an MOT has cost them a relatively large sum of money that has degraded their profit margin so that they expect you to pay towards that and they now seem to be lying about the cost of that repair in order to extort money from you?

If this fault had appeared within 6 months of you buying the car they would have been liable for the whole cost as you are buying a high value item that you have a reasonable expectation in law to not cost you a large sum to fix within. that period of ownership.

In terms of maintaining a relationship, who knows what will happen in the next few months? Somehow I doubt they will be overly helpful if you have any other problems.

Relationships work both ways, this seems to be very one sided

It is after all your decision and yours alone, I just could not countenance any car or other object that would hold so much interest that I would have been prepared to put up with a fraction of the appalling behaviour this dealer has shown to you.

I do wish you good luck and health to enjoy it though :)

Unless you have already agreed to the £500 then if they did not mention it when they called to let you know it was ready then my guess is that they have probably written it off. Dealers lose money on the odd car now and again. Its built into their business plan. If you front it out when/ if they raise it face to face they will probably back down and be glad to see the back of it. Depends how you feel about a bit of unpleasantness. The MB dealer invoice info will certainly put them on the back foot.

I don’t mind a bit of hassle or unpleasantness for £500. I don’t think they deserve it really for how they’ve handled all this, the time it’s taken and how much I’ve been messed about.

From my calculations they’re about £1k down on the car if I don’t pay the £500, otherwise they’re about £500 down. Maybe a little more for the control unit etc they tried if they weren’t able to return it. Mind you they’ve had the car about 3 months in total now, surely they can write off some of that in depreciation (it’s already lost about £61k in 11k miles)

Perhaps they made good money on the other car they sold - who knows.

I’ll see how it goes :)

Get down there and complete the sale, you want it so buy it,all these problems will melt away once you find a stretch of open road, you know it makes sense.

Hot tub sales 101: Put customers in hot tub. Wait an hour. Ask them if they'd like to buy.

By that point your brain is so fuzzy and relaxed you'll agree to anything.

Well Natacha I am sure there was a cheaper way of getting the hot tub

Okay got it

All good, it’s almost like new. I’d forgotten why I wanted it until I saw it again this afternoon, stills smells like new inside!

And I didn’t pay the £500 :D

Fully serviced by MB, and a full tank of fuel as promised :thumb:

Will post some pics and more details later, thanks again to everyone for all their help and advice :)

Having displayed exemplary patience, tenacity and also having kept a cool and level head throughout this lengthy saga would you mind terribly taking over our exit negotiations from the EU? :D:D

Glad it worked out for you. Hope it isn't a lemon after all that!

Did you tell them you knew they'd had a word with Billy B about the amount of time MB charged for to fix the headlight - or did they just forget about it?

What a bunch of shysters though. Shame you can't name so others can avoid!

I don’t want to jinx anything but it’s absolutely fine. Even managed circa 18mpg on the M25 late on a Friday afternoon.

What a load of hassle though to spend money. But I really don’t care, the car is great :thumb:

Just emptied out a load of parking receipts, an instruction book for a kids ISOFIX seat and an out of date packet of Strepsils.

Now it’s just a case of me double checking everything - I’ll contact Olly and my local dealer when they’re free - then a couple of small things to make it as perfect as possible and hopefully that’s about it

Photobucket is being a little slow but I’ll try and post a few pics in a bit :)

Many years of experience have taught me that no garage or car cleaners are as thorough as a proud owner:)
I wish you many miles and smiles:cool:

Well done for ignoring all the noise and proceeding with purchasing the car, good health to enjoy.

Sounds like all the hassle was worth it. Congratulations
