If you ever have to go to the parts counter to order an AMG specific part , the start of the part number will always begin ' HWA ' ....
Did a googl on it and found this.

"AMG is derived from the original founders' initials: Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, as well as the town in Germany where Aufrecht was born, Grossaspach."

I believe Graham is the owner of this site.
And don't forget that HWA is also a separate company, methink for engineering and racing.

After seeing, or rather hearing, Maff's Aston at the recent GTG, AMG stands for Ahh, My God
so it stands for Aufrecht Melcher Grossaspach
the other day someone tried to tell me it stood for .....wait for it....
American Motor Group......
I said what has America gotta do with the finest german engineering...
It's more like "amgh" as one word, if you're not paying attention you just miss it! After a few hours we managed to get Steve K to pronounce it "ahh umm GEE" . He also used to say "oohm" meaning OEM.As they say in German:
AHHHH UMMM GAY!
AMG stands for: "All Money Gone" I'm afraid. But if you drive like that all day, one could say " Another merc gone "
AMG stands for: "All Money Gone" I'm afraid.
American Motor Corporation (AMC) purchased the Jeep Corporation in 1970. In 1971 they made the Jeep division a wholly-owned subsidiary and named it AM General Corporation - the person most likely mixed them up; were they fans of american military cars or american?
Wikipedia has a few interesting quotes on related matters: "AM General, which remains an independent company and government and military contractor, sold the rights to the Hummer name to General Motors in 1999 but continues to build the vehicles for GM. GM was sued early in 2003 by DaimlerChrysler, owners of the Jeep brand, for the Hummer's seven slot grille which resembled the design DaimlerChrysler argued consumers associated with Jeep vehicles.[1] The lawsuit was dismissed due to the past corporate history involving AMC and Jeep. " - Chrysler were always ALWAYS bad news!
Never had anything to do with the real AMG which was founded in 1967 by Aufrecht and Melcher.
