As it say's, I've often seen M-Tex mentioned as an alternative covering for seats. But what is?

IT looks like leather , it feels like leather ( ish) but , its cheap like the budgie. Basically its a high quality vinal seating.

Quick way to tell if a car has leather or MB-LEX or tex is : look at the door clappings if its all ruffled ( you know what i mean ) its leather , if its all smooth its Lex

There was a huge diference in the price at one point , with the lex costing 250 and the leather costing 1750 .The price of leather now is down to about 1200.

Im sure the lex was developed for the army of mercedes taxis roaming around germany.

MB TEX looks exactly like leather - it is so hard wearing that it's unbelievable - u can literly hose it down and it will be like new again! Euro MB taxi's have it.....

here is a door panel that has MB TEX - it is like how fuzzer described it.... The seats however look exactly like the leather in our cars...

yeah it's designed for when drunk people throw up everywhere in the taxi etc. One of the people at the gtg had 'Tex in his interior, he had an ex-taxi, I think it was this one:

It's repainted brilliant silver, it used to be the glossy cream colour that all DE taxis come in. He has a lockable armrest storage bin! Neeeeeeeeeed!

As some have so rightly said, its also known as Taxi leather. Hire cars also often do come with MB-Tex upholstery which otherwise is very seldom chosen by private European buyers.

I saw a w210 estate elegance with quartz mb lex , lookes pretty sweet , you need to be a right MB fan to know it was not leather....

MB-Tex is indeed the hardest wearing interior in any car i know of, and was brought into mercs way before the 80's...

I can tell the difference instantly, maybe ive worked with mercs too long!

It is great for any kind of working car, but make sure the seat-belts are good, as these are the slidy seats!!!
